I'm having problems with VMP. Getting an imaged scanned into the program for cleanup seems to be a problem. Any step by steps would be appreciated. Also, does anyone know how to create a double oggie(spelling) with the program. I've been using Flexi for 7 years and I'm beginning to wonder if I should stick with it.

Rob,

I've been using VMP for a couple of years now. I like it a lot and for the money I don't think you can beat it. Tech support has also been very good.

I don't scan directly into VMP most of the time. I'll scan into Paint Shop Pro or Corel 10, tweak the scan in there and then copy and paste it into VMP where I then can vectorize the scan. This is one of those "you have to play with it to get the feel of it" scenarios.

VMP does not have the pre-set distortions that some of the other programs have. Perhaps something like this is in the works and that would be nice. For now, you can go to your distortions icon and select flag, cylinder or warp to achieve a double ogee. Again, you have to play with it. Use of the guidelines will help.

Good luck.

Hey Rob,
Why are you using VMP if you have so much Flexi experience?

Rick-

I wanted to get a new program for my laptop for jobs on the road. VMP does not use a dongle and can be put on more than one computer. For the money it is well worth it. My flexi program is old and needs upgrading. It would cost twice what VMP goes for and only good on one puter.

Interesting, though I have not upgraded my Flexi either, since I only do side work now, I have 5.8 and I'm afraid it will cost a small fortune to upgrade to 7. I'm wondering do you design in VMP or Corel, or Illustrator? I find to many shops rely on thier sign software to design in exclusively, I know the envelopes are better in Flexi and other sign software but I try not to use the effects to much or my layouts all look the same. I design exclusivley in Illustrator with Cadtools and output with Flexi.

I would respond "if it ain't busted, don't fix it"... however, I use and have used many different programs to get from them the things I need for a particular project.

Some have all of the same capabilities but you get used to or feel more confident with certain tools in certain programs. This VMP thread is a good example of that. My OLD LetterArt program has all of the distortions (ogee, double ogee, ogee top right, ogee top left, etc....)set as standards and can be tweaked from that point. You simply look at the distortion that you want and click it. I don't have that with VMP but I can get close with the distortion tools that are there.

If I wanted to get picky and use the old Letter Art program, I could export the design as a DXF file and then import it to VMP, or Corel 10 and output from there.
