Hi Heads. I have a tough time understanding why my suppliers sell banner material by the yard. All of my customers want to buy them by the foot. The manufacturers make them so that the gromets are spaced every 2 feet. So, if I want to buy enough material for a 10 foot banner, I must buy a minimum of 4 yards, and whenever I do that, invariably the gromets are spaced so that one end of the material has them, and the opposite end doesn't.There's also the wasteage that results from such a dumb method of retailing this material.
Can any supplier give me a reasonable explaination as to why they have such an assinine policy such as this in place? It's kind of comparable to the practice of selling hot dogs by the dozen, and hot dog buns in packages of 8.

Maybe they do that because a grommet every foot is ridiculose!
Simply cut off the lenght you need, plis 1 1/2 inches, lay on a stripe of Banner tape and fold it over. A $15 grommet tool takes about 5 minutes to put a grommet on the top & bottom edge!
Sure beats having to order a blank and wait for delivery!

Banana Banner and Bandana Banner are sponsors here so let's give them a plug. Their banner rolls have double grommets every two feet, so you cut between the grommets and you have two usable pieces of banner material. That doesn't totally solve your problem,Ken, but you might take a look at their site. Also, they are in Canada. Also, they sent me a canned moose that was a source of much amusement in the store when it arrived. I sent it to the grandkids. Vic G

I either use Bandana Banner or custom order what I need from Banners Plus in Brookings SD.
The only problem I ran into is when the printer ordered 4- 10X15" banners. I had to go buy one of those 15 buk grommet tools that Si was talking about.

I'm in the middle of reviewing our banner product line and will absolutely take this into consideration...thanks for the idea.

Ken...I use that industrial fabrics place in esat London that I told you about. I call them up, order the banner, using inches instead of feet or yards, they make it up, hem and grommet or sew in a rod pocket, whatever way I want and whatever size I want. If I order first thing in the morning I can pick up in the afternoon otherwise it is a next day deal. Pricing is VERY reasonable. 12 oz. vinyl/paint receptive material. No prep required.
