I posted a pix of my cheap "homade" tape tool at Rapid-Tacs forum so check it out. It works like an expensive "famous" one that most shops use. It is the topic "Cheap homade tape dispenser" not the "Pix for cheap homade tape dispenser". If anybody wants to post a pix for me of it I will e-mail it to them, I haven't tried to post a pix here but I wiil soon. Heres the link to rapid tac, click the forum links and then go to tips and tricks and go to the "cheap homade tape dispenser" link. I guess I am just a cheap-scade but hey SO-WHAT, IT WORKS! http://www.rapidtac.com/index2.htm

Cool John, but I would suggest you leave the Weber out of it...

I had a homemade transfer tape despenser too, and it worked well. But I'm cramped for table space and mine, like yours, takes up about an extra 8-10 inches of table space with the wooden base.
I have an 4' X 8' table and I kept finding myself wanting the "extra inches" that were lost on account of my base.....so I finally bit the bullet and bought the Webermade Dual roll dispenser. I love it, and even though I thought the price was way too steep for what materials were involved(hey, good ideas should be rewarded right?)I am glad I bought it.
Yours looks very cool....good idea!

Todd, the device I made can be mounted off of the table with just a little more additional woodworking. I can change out a roll in less than 2 minutes too. It doesn't look that way but it is really easy to change rolls and roll size. It took me about 20-30 minutes to make it so time wasn't an issue. I will say one thing though, I am not a mega cheap scade, I will buy stuff that I can't make in a short time and cheap. I ain't one of those soap and water guys, Go Roger!

Hey that's great John....the one I had made had one end that slid left to right in a channel...so you would just slide the moveable end outwards to get the roll off, put in whatever size roll you wanted and slide the moveable end back into the end of the transfer tape tube.
The vertical ends of the dispenser had circular wood "dowels" that were just slightly smaller than the core of the transfer tape....they stuck into the core on either side....and it worked like a charm...but like I said, It cut me outa some needed "inches" hehehe.
I could change out a roll in about 15 seconds...and the Webermade takes longer but I gotta say it's a nice design.

John, you gotta right click on the frame with the pic, view source code, & wade through all Jeff's code looking for the "A HREF" link to your image.
BTW check your email, I posted the pic to my server & sent you the link so you could edit your original post to add the image right there.

Thanks Doug. I really like the Webermade BUT I took a really good look at it at a show and wanted one. Then all of the sudden, the years of watching McGuyver as a yungin' came out in a flash, what a scary moment that was! Next trick is how to make Rapid-Tac at home! SIC! Jus' kiddin Roger, ain't no substitute for Rapid -Tac, especially Rapid-Tac II.

No John, they have EXACTLY what you made in it! A few issues ago they had a "how to make your own tape dispenser out of packing tape guns" article. I might build one myself if I get really motivated (not vey likely )

I have had mine for close to two years. That is one of the first things I made when I was getting started. I have posted how I made it up on a couple of other messageboards a good while back. Maybe somebody got an Idea from another messageboard, Hmmmmmmmm? Oh well it's a freebie so who cares. I saw a guy one time getting a buddy of his to help him hold a 24" roll of premask. They would pull it out and lay it down and then squeegee it leaving wrinkles in it. I asked them why didn't they use a premask tool, they said "Man why would we need one, this works fine" Oh well, to each his own.

Do you use one of the dispensers without modification to spread 2" tape? If you invest in 2 logs of tape some manufactures will give you a dispenser. That eliminates the word "cheap" and substitutes that four lettered "F" word.

Hey Santo, do you mean 2' tape. I didn't modify the dispensers in ahy way. I have used 24" with it but I generally use 15" tape and 6" tape. I have a 24" wide metal sgueegee that can be used when using 24" tape although, I didn't have it when I used 24" tape. Who gives you a dispenser for free? What kind is it? That sounds like a good deal too.

Check the ads in the magazines. SB has it in the current issue. R-Tape, I think. I'm asking if you use the same device to apply application tape on smaller text and such. 1 - 1 1/2" stuff.

Sorry Santo, I misunderstood you. No, it will only go down to a 6" roll because of the width of the bases. But, I do use a dispenser sortta like they use at dept stores for that tape they use to show you bought something. It accetps up to 3" wide rolls and is a whole unit with a base. They are like $12 or so at office depot but I got mine for $2 on clearance. Works like a charm. I have a 2" roll in it. It has teeth at the end of it like a roll of scotch tape so it you can cut the tape off using it.
