Check out www.woodworkingshop.com for some really cool tools, thanks to a call from Dave Sherby. They have an electric detail FILER that I can see is gonna save me HOURS of detail work. If you're working with HDU you need to keep abreast of all the new power innovations. I'm a big time chiseler, and with true artwork the chisel is indispensible, but for quick removal of rough out material these new power tools and sanders are a real boon. I'm buying one of the new detail filers this morning. I don't get excited too often, but this one sounds cool.

Pierre, If you want to really hog out some material, you might try a gadget I made. I ground down a horse rasp so that it fits in my Milwaukie Sawsall. It takes a little getting used to, but when you get the hang of it, you can really chew up foam.

I took a hoof rasp like horseshoers use, and cut it down to about 6 or 7 inches long. Then I ground down one end so that it fit into the chuck of the Sawsall. I also ground out the chuck so that it would take a bit wider blade. Basicly you now have a file replacing the saw blade. The Sawsall has a rather long stroke and the file will really cut away a lot of material in short order. You just have to be careful not to put too much side pressure on the file. Actually the Sawsall with a regular blade works really great for removing a lot or material in a hurry.

Jerry, another great tool for removing alot of HDU in a hurry is a flap disc on an angle grinder. The flap disc is a series of tough sandpaper rectangles mounted on a rigid disc overlaping one another almost like shingles on a roof. Its meant to give you more sanding life as a top layer wears. But as easy as HDU cuts, my disc still looks brand new. Its available at the same store Pierre listed above.
I also love Lee Valley. I just put in a dust collection system and they had the best prices anywhere on blast gates, hoses, and hose clamps. Lots of neat toys in there too.
That oscillating spindle sander looks cool. Usually I'm a day late and a dollar short. This time I was early as I bought a stationary oscillating spindle sander. Man them 4 x 8's are tough to control on that sucker. hehehe
