We got our gas service to the new building today(one more step forward)of course they cut the BRAND NEW water supply lines in the process(2 steps back)
Please God help me to have the preserverance to make it thru this project...(before I kill someone).

At least the water company didn't come in after the gas company and cut the gas lines! HA!HA! Can you say BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!

Reminds me of a "minor" repair I had a few years ago-
Sewer line was blocked - plumber tried to clear it and the pipe collapsed- at the street end.
Waited two days for the utility co to mark out their lines - all underground
Had to replace the pipe - bring in a tree service to take down a 50 foot tree next to the line (it was just a little sapling 35 years ago!) - couple of branches landed in our neighbors yard and took out a window (middle of January-with snow on the ground)
Then the excavating company (one-man operation) the operator let his 15 year old son (he needed the practice) dig the trench - he did a pretty good job, but the weight of the backhoe cracked the sidewalk (only 1 year old). Turns out he found the telephone line (it was marked wrong) and excavated that too.
With snow falling the plumber put in the new line, in the 7 foot trench - no shoring or anything to keep the walls up - he did work really fast !!!!
At least they didn't hit the gas line- we could see it on the edge of the hole - missed by a few inches.
Got it filled in and everyone left - had to yell at the phone co for an hour (from a neighbors phone, to get them out to patch the cable back together (all 5 lines were out)

Reminds me of my College Days! I used to drive a back hoe tractor to cut trenchs for a Plumber during the holidays
Laying a new sewer line down a street once. Brought in the local Council Engineer to show me where the gas and water utilities crossed the trench. Rocky ground so couldn't "feel" any difference in obstructions when digging.
3 water pipes and a couple gas lines later ... engineer went and checked the street sign! Right plans, wrong street hahahahhahaha
Lucky the Electricity was not underground in those days

Hang in there Monte, right now it must seem like it is taking forever, but before you know it , it will be all behind you and you will be working in your new shop. All the best of luck. Don't forget to finish the book on the apprentice.

This reminds me of the time 20 years ago we were installing a 27' tall pylon sign. We had the pier drilling truck on the site, the property manager and the head of the irrigation company to show us where the sprinkler lines were. The irrigaton guy showed us where the lines were buried, walked over and pointed straight down to a place about 10' away we could safely drill. Immediately, we hit the 3" main line for all the irrigation on the entire property. With Old Faithful gushing out of the hole, the next words out of his mouth were: "I didn't say you could drill there". There were only about a half dozen of us that clearly heard and saw him point out the location. Unfortunately for us, the property manager had wandered out of earshot and had not heard the irrigation (irritation?) man tell us that was a safe location to drill. $175.00 of repairs later, we were back at work.
