Hi all,

I'm wanting to buy a digital camera and wanted to know what you use. I'm looking at the Olympus C-3020 (3mp) or C-4000z (4mp).

Just a good all around camera for the shop and personal use.

Thanks,

Hi Chuck,

My husband bought me the Olympus C-3020 in April (the night before our trip to the Grand Canyon)and I love it. In fact, I spent most of today printing out pictures. Even at the lower resolutions, it gives superb picture clarity and very true color.

Post or email me: TheWizardofAHZ@aol.com if you have any specific questions.

Chuck..
I've got the 3020...had it for at least a year.
I absolutely love it. I had heard that it as a battery eater but haven't been bothered the slightest bit. You will want at least the 32mb memory card, way more than enough for all but heavy TIFF mode exposures. You really will be delighted.

One thing I forgot...you'll also need to find a way to attach the lens cover...a tether of some sort.

My current camera is only a 1.3 MP but it has 3x optical zoom and 3x digital. Plenty of rez for what I use it for, taking pics of vehicles and storefronts and doing graphics over top of the pics, then e-mailing. Fugi camera. Just re-charged the standard re-chargable AA batteries for the first time since mid April and had taken over 80 pics, some with flash and some without. Definitly not a battery eater! [Smile]

One brand to stay away from...AGFA..they suck and their service sucks!!! Don't ask me why..just do a "search" on the topic! LOL

I DO like the smart media cards, in conjunction with the smart media floppy drive disks TOO!! Way easy to download without fumblin with cables and stuff!

Chuck,

One hint: I leave the USB cable plugged into the back of my CPU and just leave it laying right on top where I can grab it anytime. All you have to do is bring the camera to your computer, plug it in and turn it to the green download arrow. Couldn't be any easier.

Thanks Kimberly, Howard and Dave! I think I'll go with the 4000z for the few extra's it has over the 3020 although the 3020 is what got me started on this. I wonder if 4mp is good enough for sending pictures to like Ad Graphics or Gregory for printing?

Thanks for your opinions!

Chuck,

A 4MP file can supply a pretty large image for print.. 22x17 at 100 pixels per inch, 44x34 at 50ppi, 88x68 at 25ppi.. etc etc.. but it depends on the viewing distance intended for the image.

I'm sure you wont be upset with the Olympus camera but be sure to check out the Canon Powershot G2 as well, it's another 4MP camera that's been at the top of the review lists since it came out. I have one and it flat-out kicks butt! It's definitely worth the cost and depending how new the Olympus camera is, it might even be cheaper than the Olympus.

Here's a link to a good review site:

http://www.steves-digicams.com/hardware_reviews.html

I have about 2 GIG's of photos I've taken with this camera, all of them astounding.. So if you are interested I can show you how good the Canon can make a camera newbie like me look! [Smile]
