Well, I had bought a new Mamaki CG-60 less than a year a half ago. Today i was told be the company i bought it from that the mother board was shot in it. I found out that Judy Pate has one too and lost her mother board about the same length of time.
I was told the new mother board is $850 with shipping and installation the cost would be over $1,000 ......i want to cry!
1) Has anyone with a Mamaki had this happen to them (manufacturers defect ...maybe)
2) is there any one out there that might know of a place i can get a 2nd opinion.
3)is there a place i could find a used mother board...or do i bite the bullet and get a new one.
4) does any one have a # i can contact Mamaki directly.
my first thought is a new board going to go out in 2 years again...If i buy a used one do i run the same risk. I was told and still believe the the Mamaki is a good machine. why would this happen!?!?!?!
i have a Ioline Studio 7 that i had bought used and have done nothing but plug in and run for close to 10 years. this does not make Sense to me that the Mamaki would break down so quickly.
Do i persue Mamaki on defective equipment. can't persue the company that sold it to me, only had a year warranty.....i guess i need some help and support.
i too remember when there was no computer and you depended on your brush and drawing skills and it never failed or stoped working when the electricty went out!!!!!! You could always tell who did a sign by the casual lettering style!
HELP...chris

Before I spent a grand on it, I would get a 24" Graphtec, I know a place that's got 'em for $1795 with a stand. I just can't see something that catasrophic going on that soon and if it is a defect in more than one, they should have a recall on them or else they are just plain sorry as a company.

Sorry to hear about your Mimaki, I have the CG6 24" had it since '95 took it with me on the road over 10,000 miles, the baby doll still runs smooth, yes I'm knocking on wood too. I have no idea what happen to yours. I would try the 888# they gave you or call the place that you bought it from and see if they will help you out in anyway.

Have had a Mimaki nearly 10 years now had a CG50 bought second hand used to track off a bit over 3 metres so decided to upgrade to the CG60st and I have to tell you the 50 was a better machine in as much it used take the vinyl even if it had a crease in it whereas this machine tends to jam if that happens and as for cutting the 50 was again better in consistent pressure this one tends to cut deeper & through the vinyl on curves. Too late but if I had known better would have kept the old machine. As for the mother board I have had no such bad luck (fingers crossed... as he touches his wooden head)

well after i caught my breathe from the shock! i called Mamaki and talked to several people( some did not speak good Engrish). one in perticular i told how can this happen a few short months after the warranty. That i was concerned that I might have a Lemon mother board. explained to him what the suplyer(company that sold it to me) had told me. Well he explained that Yes a new mother board was $8oo+ but that there is generally a core charge and that after the core charge it would only be $350. well so i called back my guy who sold it to me and told him of what i found out. well he said ill call you right back!(seems fishy) well so i got the call back and he said that he pitched a fit with Mamaki...basicly why he wasn't told about the core chare(he said) and so what happened is that im getting the rebuilt Mother board from Mamaki free but will have to pay $150 for installation and his time finding the problem and phone time.
So i guess that that some one got egg on their face and i don't know who or why, but i will have my plotter back next week!
My biggest gripe is that is i put up a sign and the damn Lettering fell off, it is my name out there I make it right! so that is the aprouch i took with all involved.
thanks to all who had input
chris...P.S.
liveing life on lifes terms! anger and resentment will get you no were, it kills you!...thanks Joe

Glad things worked out half way good for you chris. You had me sweating bullets there for a while. I wonder if a person could just get a rebuilt one and put it in themselves?

Thanks for the update,Chris! Now I feel like I got ripped off..of course you know the dealer I bought my Mimaki from wasn't very reputable. I paid $500 for a rebuilt motherboard and $200 installation so I think you are coming out a lot better than I did. I did e-mail Mimaki and told them about our motherboard problem but I didn't recieve a reply yet. Glad you got your plotter fixed! Judy
