Hi Heads,

July 11, 12 adn 14. Mike Stevens said he was coming down and bringing a couple of Letterheads.

Pat King is driving up from Alabama. Steve Estes and Roy Fisbey (sorry if I spelled that wrong) have signed up too!

Then a fair number of local sign guys are coming, one whose pinstriping work has been in featured in truck magazines but has NEVER attended a Letterhead or a Pinhead meet.

Atlanta Illinois is 7 miles north of Lincoln Illinois or 27 miles south of Bloomington, Illinois on I-55. Its small, so you might miss the exit off the highyway! [Smile] Even so, it will be big on fun!

It is a FREE meet, and the first 30 registered get free food. I think only about 18 are signed up right now. There are some sweet litle old town folk ladies ready and willing to cook up some goddies and bake cakes! One retired man built the easels for the panel jam. This is very exciting for these people.

The village of Atlanta is hosting this meet, and, since they are a little new at holding a Letterhead meet, this will be a learning experience to hold a really big meet next year.
Believe it or not, old car tours love to motor through this town. A car tour of wealthy French men, who have brought their cars over from France, are stopping in this town for lunch on their tour of America!

Thus, they want thier buildings decorated in Letterhead fashion and are working hard to learn how to put on a Letterhead meet.

Lots of walls to paint! Wonderful murals to be painted and all themed to RT 66, which the original Rotue 66 runs right down main street in this tiny place that time forgot.

Its a slice of good ole Americana, small town life you will enjoy! See you there! [Smile]

13 days and counting!

hahahahahah!

no 13th! typo error. probably a psycological slip up! [Smile]

The meet Starts on Thursday. Mainly a set up day and then Friday and Saturday are the main work days. Sunday is to say goodbye. [Smile]

Got a couple calls over the weekend asking to sign up. Please go to the Future Live Meets menu selection on the left side of the screen and click on it. Toggle down to Firecracker Rt. 66 meet and follow the instructions. Sorry, I'm not the contact person to register for the meet.

The DEAL is: The Atlanta folks get to take care of all the nitty gritty organizational concerns, while we Letterheads spread the news about the party, and make sure we get the mural painted.

My job is to spread the news, invite you all, and suggest some events we have seen at other meets that were fun, and duplicate them here.

I get to slap some paint on the wall too, but I will probably hold back to let all of the Letterheads get the first crack at the wall. If we don't get it finished...thats where I come in...as I will have to finish it up through out the next week or so. We may have 20 wall dogs fighting over a section of wall, and I think we will knock this out quickly.

The sun shines on this wall in the afternoon and it has been hotter than...well its been hot and humid here recently with no signs of let up. W ewill probably do an early morning push and then a light afternoon schedule.

As with any outdoor wall job...sunglasses and a hat and some sunscreen is a smart investment. [Smile]

If you have ever painted your own house or interior walls with latex paints, then you can do this and can help out. So, don't hold back from coming just because you only do vinyl signs.

The wall is brick, so we will be using rollers and stiff art brushes ( called "fitches"). Little fitches are used to out line the letters, big fitches to cut in around the letter and rollers to cover the big areas of negative space.
Also, with latex, at leaset two coats of paint are required, which anyone can help do.

We hope to see you there, and watch for more updates this week.

Have a safe 4th of July! [Smile]

I wll still bring my cutters and fitches used in oil based paint just in case.
I have already statred on my panel to bring along with me.

"BE THERE OR BE SQUARE!" or atleast talked about
if you aren't. I'm with PKing about the latex
paint on a wall sign. This should be interesting
to say the least.

Getting new tires on the
bike Monday and then it's off for Illinois on
Wednesday. 650 miles of cruising with the wind
in my face, now that's living! Some would call
it nuts, but if I have to explain, you won't
understand it anyway. [Big Grin] [Smile] [Wink]

We will be leaving on Wednesday also Roy.
My first taste of latex on walls was in 1997 at
Jay Allens meet(also in Illinois)
Fast drying time is OK seeings as how you have to go back and double coat.
Of course by then the paint has ALSO dryed in the heel of your brush!
Where you THEN have to clean the brush(for sharp lines)
Along with keeping (2) sets of wall brushes(oil based and water based)
I have YET to figure the reasoning behind using
yet to be time tested paints?
Maybe by MORE use there will be an answer for me.
See ya'll there
