Here's the plan: 9-11am and 3-5 pm are workshops, 11-12am & 2-3pm are seminars...at the Carving Pavilion.
Thurs: 9-11am, "Carving Basics and Incised and Raised Letters." w/ Joe Cieslowski 11-12am "Moldmaking seminar and casting demo" w/ Francis Lestingi 3-3pm "Beveling Flat Guilds" w/Bill Reidel 3-5pm "Incised carving basics" w/ Joe Cieslowski
Fri: 9-11am Relief carving basics" w/ Joe Cieslowski 11-12am "Guilding Relief Sculpture" w/ Francis Lestingi 2-3pm "Sharpening carving tools" w/ Joe Cieslowski 3-5pm "Value added tips and tricks for raised letters" Demo and Roundtable w/ Joe Cieslowski and friends.
Sat: 9-11am "Methods to increase carving speed" Demo and Roundtable w/ Joe Cieslowski & Friends. 11-12am "V" Gouge lettering" w/Bill Reidel.
There should be enough room under the pavilion for folks to work on their own projects even while workshops are in progress. There will be limited seating for workshops, (restricted by # of tools available and space). Participants will be chosen by lottery at the pavilion prior to the workshop. However, those not chosen may stay and observe, take notes etc. We would like as many folks as possible to bring their own "Tips and Tricks" to the 2 roundtables. A brief demo or simple explanation of your process would be great! Use of tools other than traditional carving tools, is welcomed and encouraged. We would also like to remind everyone who participates, in any way, under the pavilion, that there will be many children on Mars. Please keep your tools under your control at all times.....we certainly don't want anyone getting hurt! We hope we have a program that will be of interest to rookies and old pros alike. Join us on Mars We are gonna have some fun!

Thanks Ken!! I'll try to keep my answers short and sweet , like That is gonna happen, hehehehehe! Felix, here's the link www.woodcarvingbiz.com/supply.htm They are in western Canada....their published prices for the Swiss tools are the same if not lower than the exclusive distributor here in the US. With the exchange rate (here in the U.S.)we save 30-40% which makes them cheaper than the junk tools! Thank You Canada! If you would like a short list of tools to start you out, I'd be happy to post one for you. (Steve, I don't think any of our Merchants carry them )

Nope, I don't think they're lost. Try this one: http://www.woodcarvingbiz.com Dropped the "/supply.html" and got right through.
How do you like the palm carvers Joe? Ever use 'em? I need me a new set (I've got crappy X-acto ones ) and at those prices, I don't think you can go wrong!

Well, it looks like my days on Mars are going to be full! Hope I'm luckier at this lotto than any other I've ever played.
Joe, I got your videos and just watched them last night. Hope to start practicing in the next couple days. For anyone interested in getting into carving, Joe's videos will really take the mystery out it and get you going!

Jonathan, Yes, I have used them in the past, when I first started relief carving. My biggest problem with them was the size...too small to work quickly. I switched to the full size tools 25+ yrs. ago and never looked back. On a regular basis I carve a flock of 4 geese in flight that will fit on your thumb up to carvings 7' long. If the palm tools you are using have met your needs (size wise), then by all means replace them with the swiss. Should youir needs change...add a few full size tools to expand the set (you certainly won't have to replace the palm tools) The only other problem is that they may be difficult to machine grind when it becomes necessary to repair or refresh a bevel. The Tormek system will probably work but thats a lot of $$$ for such little tools. I, personally, would have to regrind them by hand. (I use the Delta Sharpening Center, and the small tools won't fit). Hope I was of some help. Terry, Glad you got the package ok....I learned one thing though, keep the goodies to Canada under 4 pounds....that puppy cost me $19 US

On Fri. from 11-12 he will have a seminar and demo on carving traditional scrolls and other high relief "dodads"(dodads is a highly technical carvers term .) Thank you Francis!!!
