This sign was right down the street from Ron Percell's shop during the last Micro Meet in September. Although proximity might suggest to some the person or persons responsible for the total use of background space and border area in this handsome residential advertising piece, bear in mind there WERE quite a few LetterHead types in town that weekend and any of us may have snapped and committed this. I'd like to claim it as my own, but it's beyond my level of endeavor up to this viewing.
No flies on this sign, nor any wasted space - the Gothic/Casual letter style is easy to read. That ain't Helvetica, no Sir! I've checked my type books - it's something Brand New. My only criticism would be the inconsistency in allowing too much air around "Yard Sale" - it smacks of using emphasis in the most important place. "HUGE" is, of course Huge, as it should be and, sure, "Sat" and "Sun" are red letter days. I will forever after use uniform line spacing as represented here...

This pic will share an honored place in my archive of Brother-In-Law Signs.

FANTASTIC!!!

The last line has caught my attention the most (after all, if you can't find the garage sale, what good would it be to have one)!

On the last line, notice:

That the "14495 #A VALLEY FORD RD." appears as if it's ONE WORD!!

What about the cleaver weld of the "LLE", that TOO appears as ONE!

No doubt this guys read Mike Stevens book!!

PLEASE SEND MORE SAMPLES!!!!

Mike, you did a rather fair job in following the layout from that pounce pattern I made for you. I do think it looked better with the serif's that I had though.

I like they inclusion of the serif on the one letter I, or were they excluded on the others? You know how folks just HAVE to put serifs on I's.

With a collector sign like that, the next thing would be to make it a "True Yard Sale Sign" is to add neon on to it. Yeah...That's the ticket! The neon bender would love this person!

The guy who lettered the truck at the bottom left of the page linked to below did it, I'd know his work anywhere. It takes a second for the page to load but it's worth it. http://www.cegraphics.com/singswedidnotproduce.htm
I've put a link to here before but they have added some more so check it out. [Razz] [Razz] [Razz]

My buddy Tom Eardley and I would spot signs like that when we were driving around and whoever spotted it first would say "Is that one of yours?" and the other would reply "No ...but it's one of my layouts". Then the guy who spotted it would say "thought I recognized it". Then we'd drive on laughing...(this only happened probably a thousand times over the years)

Awww sorry ...ya had to be there!

Definately "sub standard" work ... only the word "HUGE" is double coated!

Besides, there is some white space left! He could have added some stars or such to fill it in [Smile]

PS: Do you get the walk-ins wanting "scrap" flute to "make-my-own-sign" with felt markers?

Ron, you must have dug this one out of an old trash can. Thinking about the next Micro Meet? I am...that truck - if it belongs to who I think it does - he does that on purpose. He's a really good sign painter. Man! Talking about 'Dressing Down', though.
