Greeting Heads,
Just fishin' for your input into this subject.
I recently upgraded. I have 11 fixtures in the
shop and 4 in the office. All are 4' double tube.
All have been replaced with new fixtures from
Home Depot AND I bought a case of Philips C-50
tubes. These are full spectrum tubes, $90 for the case ($3ea.) This has been a major improvement. I remember lettering a truck several years ago and thought it was perfect
until I backed it out of the shop and into natural sunlight. Still looked good, just not
great any more. What is your lighting of choice?

Hi Chris..I am not so much concerned about the type of flourescent tube as the placement of the fixtures. Since my shop was originally my body shop, I mounted the 4' fixtures vertically on the walls. Nothing worse than trying to paint the bottom parts of a vehicle in the dark! LOL

It actually works very well for doing sign work on vehicles too..for the same reason.

Full spectrum tubes in the office, and regular tubes in the garage area, with four flood lights angled down from the ceiling to the floor on all four walls.

I also have some nifty lights hanging from the ceiling above my desk, all three shades different, at different heights. Can't remember what they're called, but the wires they hang from are super thin and the bulbs small, but powerful. Pretty funky looking.

I use full spectrum florescents around the vehicle area and also have 1000 watt Halides up on top.

Used to buy some "daylight flor." 8ft. for the paint shop.

They were (memory fading) 20 some odd bucks, anyway, very spendy. [Eek!]

They would show you the true colors, so when "matching" a color, I wouldn't have to keep taking it outside in the sun. [Cool]

Thanks to all who responded. Placement is important, but in my shop the walls are covered
with materials, cupboards, cabinets, and stuff.
I was thrilled with the improvement the new tubes
made. I also removed the bronze plastic skylights over the shop & office and replaced them with clear glass. All of this made for a major improvement in lighting.

Thanks!
Chris
