I can't seem to be able to set my Roland PC-60 properties from corel draw8. It shuts down when I click on the properties. Does anyone have an idea what to do?

YEP John....Switch back to Win 98!!!... Although Roland officially denies it, the drivers for Win 2000 and win XP are no good.

I currently send my Corel files to my Win 98 laptop which runs my cutter. I have tried every version of driver they have for Win 2000 and they all crash the system. It is a Roland driver prob..NOT a Win XP or Corel 8 problem.

I was under the impression that CorelDraw 10 was the only one that would work right with XP? If you guys are getting 8 to work with it, I would like to know 'cause I just told my friend who is a Big XP lover to get 10. He is only interested in doing graphics, no sign/plotter stuff. He wanted to buy 9 off of E-Bay, but I told him it wouldn't work right. I wouldn't know 'cause I'll be using 98 2nd until it is impossible to, and then I swear I am going MAC. I really like those "I used to be a Windows guy 'till" commercials out now.

John..No personal knowledge on Corel 8 and XP, but isn't there supposed to be some "emulation" feature in XP? It is supposed to allow earlier progs to run??

If I wasn't so busy at makin signs and stickin that damn sticky stuff to stuff I would re-format THIS machine and revert to Win 98 on it too!!!

GAWD I am starting to sound like Old Paint!!!!!! [Roll Eyes]

I heard that that emulation thing wasn't flawless but who knows, if you go ask somebody that sells XP they don't have a clue...Duhhhhhhhhh! I really don't think that there is any communication or gathering of feedback by anybody who should know (Software Manufactuers/Retailers) on XP. I guess everybody is using it as a way to force people into buying newer versions of their existing software.

Here are some things I learned the hard way. XP and corel 8 are incompatible. The printer properties dialog becomes useless. You can click the button but nothing happens. Also, when you go to "save as" and start typing a file name....corel draw is history. nada... nothing it just "goes away"! anything you have drawn to that point is toast. Also, the emulator stuff: forget it. Ain't found much that works with it.but here me out! I built a new machine two months ago. monster type stuff. I was tired of slow and crashing all the time. I did a clean install of XP and bought the corel 10. Figured I'd might as well bite the bullet now. In the begining I had a few bugs. but now..............WOW [Eek!] No crashes, blinding speed, smoooooth operation, and did I mention, NO CRASHES! none, zero, you can leave this thing on forever, and nothing locks up.
It took a little research, and I had to download several new drivers to get some of my old hardware to come to life, but I now love it. I even managed to get my old Storm Technologies scanner to work! They've been bankrupt since before XP came out! And now I figure I'm good for several years or longer. And again thanks Dave Grundy and all you corel xperts for the help you gave me! much abliged!

Have been running Corel 9 on XP machines since XP came out with no problems at all. Now running Corel 10 also...still no problems. Both have have always printed and plotted without a hitch. I do use CoCut Pro, and that may be the difference..?..!..?

Dave- I run XP on my home PC. I don't have many apps, only Office 97. It runs fine out of the gate.

I primarily game and surf the net with this PC. No apps like GA or CorelDraw, so I can't speak for the program side of things. Out of 15 or so games, XP seems to run all but two with no "switching". One did require it, and now runs perfect (AVP- try it, gamers!!!) and the other one is an issue I don't think is related to XP (Serious Sam, for those who may know a fix). Sometimes games are just as hard on an OS, I've heard, so I think this speaks well for XP.

That being said, how it works is this- create a shortcut. RIght-click on it, and go to "properties". This opens a dialog box whereby one of the options is "run as..." and lists all of the previous WIndows. Select whichever version you want!! THIS is what I did to solve my problem with the first game, and it worked fine. With my second, it is still buggy, so...
