It seems there was a fairly recent thread where people were coming to the defense of Steve & current site policies when the word "Censor" was being tossed around in a discussion about mentioning sponsors &/or their competitors.
I had about 3 or 4 minutes to log on this afternoon & that was just enough time to notice things flaming up on "I'm not sure how I feel about this". There had been, however, some very insightful dialog about "original" design & "borrowing" ethics. If some people want to embarass themselves in public, that should not stop the rest of us from having access to either the original dialog, or for that matter the entertainment value of seeing people show their true colors now & then.
I have seen threads deteriorate into a free-for-all that eventually gets locked up by our moderator, & I agree that this should happen.
To erase any trace of adolescent behavior in a public forum will, in my opinion, make people less cautious about their flame throwing. It is also, I think, the beginning of too much external policing.
I have only been around a relatively short time though, so maybe this is not new. Maybe I should thank Steve for Saving us from ourselves, but I'm not sure that is what I would have voted for if this were a democracy.

Hey Doug. I know what you mean. I agree there are a few too many extra police in Letterville who jump on anyone who mentions anybody other than a merchant. All of the merchants here are great! But there are times when you just don't remember to check the merchant page...and you are excited to tell others about what you have discovered. And to constantly get jumped all over by the same people gets a bit old. I do say it is Steve and Barb's site and they can do what they want. But if we pay our resident dues (or not) we should be able to speak our minds. Certain people love pushing others buttons just to get a rise. You can either ignore it, or blast back. The blasting does get out of hand sometimes. (yes by me) And that is where Steve and Barb have every right to cut it off. All in all Letterville really is great, but I guess sometimes we need to re-read our reply before we hit the 'add reply' button. I have had to do that several times in the past week. Since this BB isn't a Democracy...get over it!
Approximately 10000 hits on this site a day...and to have a few people squabbling and acting like spoiled brats, will drive lots of people away, including the advertisers!
If you say, "Just delete the idiotic remarks", then you will hear even louder screams of Censorship!
Just my $2.68 worth.

Being a moderator is not an easy job. There are a lot of different personalities, each with his or her particular point of view.
Sometimes things get out of control. It can be a clash of personalities, a poorly worded comment, and in some cases its because someone sees a chance to take a shot at someone.
In any case, the moderator has to look at everything as a whole and make a decision. Sometimes these decisions can cost the site a participant, an advertiser or a friendship.
But, whether any of us feel they are right or wrong, the moderator has to do what he feels best for the community. From my own experience, I can tell you that there is often more going on behind the scenes than we are aware of.
In any event, I think it is incumbent upon us to give them the benefit of a doubt and move on.

hehehehehehe, so what? You put up a post that takes valuable space to begin with, just to find out if others think the same way as you do, and when you find they don't, you're up in arms and ready to defend your moral ways.
Lately the posts here haven't made me laugh as much as I'd like them to, persons asking for circles, and others replying on how the circles are actually put together as if drwaing it is out of the question, well I still don't get it! Someone uses anothers "step by step" and doesn't have the courtesy to at least change something visual after they stated they worked on it for a couple hours, and others stand up saying it was a simple mistake because they want to look good in their heros eyes as if their hero knows jack to begin with. I personally don't give a rats a-s what anyone does or thinks as long as it doesn't directly interfer with my well being, when that arises, I'll just knock on your door

Having been a participant on this BB and it's predicesor(sp?) since 1996, I cannot recall ever hearing of an "election" to determine who runs the site!!!!!!
