I worked for a sign shop for 15 years, owner is selling and I can not afford to buy, so I am going on my own. I always used a gerber edge and 15" plotter but I am on a shoestring and going to use signlab, what is the best 24"-30" plotter (ioline, graphtec, roland, or gerber fastrac). I thought I knew just what I wanted untill time to get, any ideas would be appreciated.

ROger..I am sure that both Graphtec and Summa are excellent cutters..as are all the rest, Mimaki, Ioline, et al. For a one man shop starting out on a "shoestring", think about a Roland CX 24 and grab a copy of CorelDraw 7, 8, 9, or 10. I am in Canada so the pricing is different but I think that in the USA, you should be able to get both for around $2500?? Now THAT is a shoestring deal! LOL
Oh..in case you are wondering..you wouldn't need Signlab with that combo..cut direct from Corel! E-mail me if you need or desire any more info.

If you are on a real shoestring budget go for a Roland CX 24 from www.ssky.com or check out some of their other deals. The CX 24 I beleive is $1695, really good cutter if you don't need to do sandblast mask. They also usually have a good deal going on Graphtecs. Summas aren't bad for $1999 either though. If you go for the Summa, dig around on the net, you can get CorelDraw 9 for less than $100 for a full version and then you can use Co-Cut that comes with it. We are leaning towards getting a 30" plus Summa or Graphtec next year, I personally think they are the best out there.

ND GRAPHICS is about to introduce a really hot deal on Gerber FasTrack plotters...
OK, I admit it. I'm in some sort of shameless mood this afternoon. Friday. Working from home today. Heat wave. Ice cold cider/lager combo called "snakebites". You can pretty much figure it out the rest. I'll be slurring my words in no time.

Go for a Summa D-60. I've had mine for about 1.5 yrs and I had nothing but good things to say about summa's tech support (have only called them once or twice since I've had it and they've stayed on the line until we solved the issue at hand).
Shoot, Jim Doggett is on here all the time trying to help folks out. Remember support issues when purchasing anything. You might get the best deal but the first time you have a problem and make the call you might be surprised at how much the machine is really costing you. Check out everyone's track record if you can. My 2 cents.
