Hi all,

I have painted a banner with 1shot to sort of look like marble. (for MARS [Cool] )

I would like to add a beveled edge look to it.

The banner is all ready painted. I am planning to mask the edges (2”) with 45-degree corners. I guess what I want to do is “shadow” the edges. 2 light (one lighter than the other) and 2 dark (one darker) as if the light source was in one corner.

Is there a slick/prefered way to do this?? Possibly tinting some type of clear coat light to darker…??
Is more paint the way to go???

Any method and/or any thoughts would be appreciated. I will be taking a stab at this regardless… [Eek!]

I'm my own micro-meet! [Wink]

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe, it's Joe.

I would do just what you said -
Since the background's already painted, it's at least worth a 'shot'. You can probably just thin down some black for the shaded bevel and white for the highlight. I wouldn't bother with any clear. Mask off those bevels and give them a light spritz of the tint. A faint glaze should do the trick, with a little stronger tint to highlight the 45degree corner. Should be great from 10' back.

Another method would be to use 1-Shot Tinting Clear. just add some black to the clear, it will be transparent, same with the white. I would get a small 2-3 oz paper cup with some clear and add a little of the color of your choice, so you can see how it works. You'll be glad you did...

I do this quite often, using White and Shading Black with clear.(Shading Black tends to mix more evenly than regular Black) You will want to practice first, as it takes VERY LITTLE COLOR in the clear to give the effect you want. I normally mix one cup of each, do the weaker sides, then add another drop or two to each cup, and do the other sides.
