A friend of mine was telling me that he was going to canada fishing last weekend well I ran into him yesterday I said thought you went to canada Well he did but got turned back at the border they ask him if he's ever been arrested he said no they run a check on him said you where arrested in 1976 for drunk driving he says that's right I forgot they say any crimal record no coming into canada. lost his deposit at the fish camp plus no vacation is this true or is he pulling my leg? If this is true you won't be getting many visitors from the u.s.He has been fishing canada many times before with no problems think he said had to do with 9/11.

Its the same way for Canadians going into the USA. If you have a criminal record its a no-go at the border from Canada to the USA. If you lie and arecaught you can even get your vehicle impounded. No fun at all.
It has gotten a lot stricter since 911 both ways.
It is possible for your friend to get a pardon in regard to his record. Not a big deal... just takes time to get through the process.
Once thats done its travel time once more.

Agree with Dan A friend of mine cannot go to the U.S. (Anymore) because he was "caught" with a box of Cuban Cigars that he bought in Miami. Go figure!

We just did a bunch of screen printed signs for a tour company regarding reasons entry into Canada may be denied.
A criminal conviction of any kind is sufficient reason. Your friend will have to go to the Canadian consolate and go through a bunch of work to get his entry privelages restored.
Living as close to the border as we do, we often take for granted. Sometimes we have to remember that we are visiting a foriegn country.
Their sandbox, their rules....
Have a great one!
