I've got a black metal tubular futon frame sitting here that will be going in my "Minnesota Room". I want to paint it to look like birch bark.

Been searching for some sites that may give some tips/hints/tricks on the technique, but haven't found any yet.

Gonna keep looking for up close photos for reference, but really hoping to come up with some techniques to use. Sometimes it's that quick and easy one that you totally miss and it would have saved you hours, ya know?!

Anyone got any suggestions? Otherwise I might just grab my sea sponge and some dark colors and have at it.

THANKS!!

Dana, awhile back Shep had some woodgrains posted and I asked about some bark effects. I don't know if he worked anything out on the bark, but I think it would be interesting.

Did someone say birch bark? There is nobody better suited to answer this question than our own VinylKing from Moosenknee, Ontario. He's developed a thriving business pinstriping birch bark canoes for local teens. DrCAS knows how to contact him.

I've had fair results using the edge of a foam roller varying the pressure to get different widths. Just get paint on one end of the roller while the other stays clean and roll it along on it's edge. It leaves a ragged edge on one side and a sharp edge on the other kinda like the bark. did any of that make sense?

Also look up the artist Bev Dolittle. Lots of birch bark in her work. Have fun

They have the weirdest way of painting the Davy Crockett canoes at Disneyland, but they use chip brushes. If they did it my way I think it would look a lot more like Birch bark, but that aint gonna happen until I get elected King. Anyway I think I would use the chip brushes instead of a sponge, but I don't have a Birch Tree to use for a model. have fun.
