Applying Pelucid to sandblasted signs and am thinking about using a latex paint. I am sure I can apply Pelucid to the latex with no problem but should I need to apply a primer coat for latex before the actual latex? Oil based for sure but wasn't sure I needed to for latex. That's all! [Smile]

Corey, is this for the same cedar sign you've been working on for the last six months???

Yeh John,
It wouldn't take so long if it weren't so big....1' x 1'.
ha....no. I finished the 5 x 10 sign and it looks great. Soon I'll post some pics. Didn't even get the lid on the stain can and I got all the 'hole signage' for a local golf course (18- 2'X3's) I panned back at my Pelucid post weeks ago and from your reply, am thinking of latex rather han Pel. on the raw wood. Like I've said over and over for months now. I haven't done sandblasted signs for going on 5 years so, I am trying to rebuild that knowledge and add little NEW things to my artillary like...Pelucid, biquits instead of dowles and latex instead of one shot.
Got only 4 more months of these posts and I'll think I'm done! ha ha

Corey, do the search on "priming redwood". All redwood and cedar MUST have a stainblocker applied prior to finishing with latex. The tannin will bleed right through the paint in a short time if you don't prime first. The steps that I take are this::::
(1) two coats of oil based KILZ stain blocker (or any good brand that you have available in your area)
(2) two coats of latex base coat (I wipe the excess off the raised graphics and letters as I go so there won't be a buildup of paint on them)
(3) two coats on the raised portions. Letters, etc.
(4) let dry 24 hours in a well ventilated area.
(5) spray two thin coats of pelucid one hour apart. Be SURE to adhere to all safety precautions on Pelucid !!!!!!!!

Just my way of doing this type of work. However, I have switched to SignFoam HDU exclusively in my shop. No more wood at all.
Good luck and congrats on the golf course signs! [Smile]
