I don't feel too great for asking this, but what would you guys charge for this lettering job? It'd be airbrushed vinyl on an existing 2' x 16' sign. It also has two contours, a gray contour followed by a thicker black one, both also vinyl. Thanks in advance guys!

I would think that a job like that, airbrushed on vinyl and installed on the existing sign should be more like $500 Canadian or $320 U.S.

I dunno on this one, I usually use the TOMH pricing guide for most jobs and it's usually about right. Thats the Top Of My Head, when in doubt I will check with the Signwriters guide. There looks to be a good deal of airbrush work here, not something to be knocked out real quickly, three layers of vinyl, letters going to be around 18", TOMH says $650. Wonder how the "price according to value" guys will see this one?

Let's just say you were doing an edge font printed on the Edge. 2 FT HIGH BY 16 FT. Thats 32 sq. ft. and that printed on the edge at 20 sq. ft is more than $150.00. even at $15 a sq. ft. it is more. Neil

I cast my vote with Dave Grundy - $500 or so. I would guess that the fastest way to make this is a combination of vinyl and airbrush. If we did it, we would set it up to Edge print and contour cut. It will look better air brushed.

This looks like a 13" letter with 5" at top & 6" at the bottom.
You'll be ahead of the game if you dont have to cut an extra 24' (16' for you edge guys)of vinyl just to add 2 or 3 inches to the height (providing your using a 13" plotter).
If you were to letter 1 x 16 banner at $5 a sq. ft for (not counting the $1 sq. ft. for the banner itself) I'd charge $80(1st contour)
Now letter another banner ( 2nd contour) same Price/material/time = $80
Now letter another banner (for the letters) another $80
We're at $240 and we have not even charged for the time to airbrush it, taking it down, put it back up, or going on site. (4 hrs.?)
I'd say $500 bucks minumum (13" letters only). Otherwise you can make more money doing the easy, high profit work.
P.s. Don't be shy, we all learn something with every post.

Now I'm going to make it hypothetical Felix. If I were quoting it I'd tell the customer for the sake of 40 or so dollars to not bother re-using the existing panel and sell them on a new piece of colourbond (coated sheetmetal)which then allows me to do the job in the workshop. From there I reckon about 3 hours to project it, mark it out and knife the letter and outline/countours from the protective cover sheet, and about 1.5 hours to spray the blend wet on wet, let those colours dry and then pull out the masked grey outline/countour and brush it in - 1 hour, and finally pull out the black section of masking and cut it in before pulling the rest of the cover sheet off - 1 hour Labour = $292.50 Panel = $40.00 Colours = 25.00
Total 357.50 then add your margin and fitting of required. Think I might have ot sell the next customer something similar and see how I compared to my estimate Enjoy, David
