I have been reading post from way back and reading the helpful tips and gestures. And also I have been boggiling my mind on all the neat ways to produce a sign, I see one website or hear of a way to apply a new technique and I want to learn it right away. Then I always see this question (and it is a favorite one of mine also) "where can I gat more information on how to?or is there a book?" Now I was thinking all this talent on this board, why isn't there a " Lettervile How To " book out? Throwing out ideas here, Chapters or segments on a paticular job... such as backlit signs, murals, sandblasting, swimming pool graphics, cars, wood floors, carvings...ect,ect... Then just like you see on this board, tips and ideas and tools and supplies and techniques on each job. I know I am throwing this out there and I see some plenty free time coming up here on my part so I wouldn't mind helping out if others think this is a good idea. Wouldn't mind a lil feedback here, Steve and Barb, I would love to hear your replies on this post!

Frank, give us an idea of how experienced you are to the sign trade. Many of us have learned from the masters before us. We have invested many hours of personal time in practice and many hard earned dollars in attending live LetterHead meets or workshops. There are dozens of helpful books such as Mike Stevens "Mastering the Layout". Knowledge is not cheap. You have to invest in time, labor and dollars. This Bull Board is just one tool to bounce around ideas, not a full teaching arena. If you want to learn certain techniques such as handcarving, goldleafing, vinyl, or processing HDU or redwood, then, you have to structure your efforts in that area. To me, bouncing around from vinyl to lighted signs 20 feet in the air to handcarving is fruitless. Concentrate on what you want to do and what you are best good at and persue that area. It took me over 20 years to get to this point. Hopefully, it won't take you that long. Good luck in your endeavors !!!!!!
Oh, back to your original question. . .. yes, there is a book on Tips and Tricks in the sign biz. It is available from SignCraft magazine !!!!

John, I have 5 yrs of airbrushing, and about 3 yrs of vinyl graphics, and honestly can say not enough experience and skilled as many others here. I just thought it would be a nice idea, a book from Letterville, and having read your second paragraph I see your point and agree 100%
And before I get ragged on by any others more experienced pros about my post, just wanna say it was a idea and menat no disrespect to your hard years of knowledge and skiills that you have aquired over the years by suggesting that a newbie as myself thought of putting a book as this

I've also wondered if a hard version of tips and tricks or simply general interesting topics for discussion from this BB would go. I know I'd be interested.
The Tips & tricks books from SignCraft as well as the T&T section from the magazine always place the disclaimer that they have not tested everything and cannot vouch for their effectiveness. Something similar could be done here.
Perhaps a "Best of" (year) type of publication.

GREAT IDEA As John said, very (WIDE FIELD) I always get a better understanding when being able to "SEE" what is being taught,as oppossed to "READING" how to. This being the reason I attend One(1) type of Live Letterhead Meet rather than each and everyone being put on.
Hope this helps

Okay, yes Frank . .. that would be a very good idea!! We all have obtained a lot of good ideas and tecniques from this board just by asking questions or reading all the wonderful posts on sign related subjects. Now, would I buy the book?? . .. probably not. I have SignCraft's Tips and Tricks book here and never read it. Like Pat King said, I would rather see it done in person, if at all possible. Matter of factly, I'll send the tips book to you for the postage if you want it !!!
