I’m at another local shop currently and have a new scanner install question. Is anybody using Microtek ScanWizard v5.12 and producing VECTOR images direct from the twain driver? The .eps and .wmf formats that are available appear to be raster based with no option to force a vector format. Or any other options to get a vector based image directly from within the software.
The recently purchased scanner is the V6UPL model, installed without fail using USB, and produces raster based images without an issue. I am just having difficulties finding out how to scan vector and then also interfacing with GA 6.21! GA will not recognize it as a twain device!?
Can anybody offer any insight? Any help would be appreciated at this point!

Use Adobe Streamline, you can scan into that and it will create the vectors.
Otherwise, just scan it to a bitmap file then import that into GA to use the trace feature if GA has one.
Other than that, it's like Bob said.. any vectorizing is done by the software, so any software that can trace a bitmap will work. I happen to like Streamline for this.

Well, guess my HP scanner and software has me spoiled. I’m use to scanning directly to VECTOR from within the twain, no third party software needed at all. Can even perform that across the network without fail or DIRECT into GA.

I'm almost positive that scanner can scan directly to line art. You may have to switch from the "standard" to the "advanced" control panel (should be the first icon at the top of the scan wizard), but you should be able to choose "illustration" or Text(line art) for scan mode and then "black and white(line art)" scan type. Then try saving as .eps file.

This is a common problem in GA. Try this: open up win.ini and scroll down to the "TWAIN" section. delete everything after the C:\ then reboot and try adding in and using your scanner again. This *usually* fixes that problem.

Thanks for the efforts! I was “almost positive” as well, but as the day went on, hope faded fast. I’m know that that older versions of ScanWizard supported vector output, but this newer version is coming up short. I spent time within the advanced interface, help file, and online at their website; came up with zip!
This has been the third attempt at getting a “scanner” operational with this function. A few weeks ago an HP OfficeJet was returned right after installation because that ability wasn’t possible and this shop determined that was unacceptable. At least I couldn’t find how to do it, nor could HP or the folks that actually wrote their driver. Then a Brother MFC unit almost made it in the door, but a call to their support department and a subsequent conversation with the vendor who makes that software, prior to the sale, determined that wasn’t going to do the job either. So the shop elected to go the stand-alone route and picked a Microtek. Appears that wasn’t necessarily the best choice either.
I believe there will be a new stand-alone HP in the building when I go back next week. Hopefully it will end up being the five-minute job I thought “this” one was going to be. After this experience, think I’ll be hanging onto my old HP IIcx for a few more years!
