taking the plunge and moving from pc60 to edge2 setup, i run the pc 60 from my main workstation using signlab, but with the edge i want a seperate area, i will run a new pc with omega running the edge 2 and and envision plotter, what sort of area is ideal, this room will just house the above and foils and vinyl for printing and cutting edge work, weeding etc done else were,
any pictures of your setup appreiciated.
Is a dust free area critical as i have a router in the unit on the second floor.
Costings - we only have one source of purchasing Gerber equipment here in the UK and i have been priced £18.600 UK pounds for edge 2, envision,
omega and installlation plus 4 process foils and 5 spot foils how does this compare?
any other edge help appreciated

regards

Adrian

I also have a second dedicated computer for the Edge & Envision. The Envision is on left side almost out of view.

Dust free is worth the effort to strive for.

Adrian,

£18600 is about the equivilent of $27144usd today. I think you're getting a pretty good deal. In fact, its better than anything I got from my distributor. Kudos to you! [Smile]

As for cleanliness, I think an office-like environment is sufficient. The Edge has a couple features to help keep dust away from the printhead - a pair of static brushes and scrapers. They are not 100% effective, but it is much better than not having anything at all.

I'll post some pictures for you later this afternoon.

There was a cute cartoon in the paper about the levels of cleanliness

From bottom to top:
Guy Clean
Girl Clean
Mom Clean
Surgery Room Clean
Grandma Clean

The Edge likes it midway between Girl Clean and Mom Clean.

Hi there,

Having visited your shop!....I would say you have a pretty good layout, as I remember you had a customer area, and then some space behind for your design station, that would be a good place for the Edge, if I remember right you went thru a door into your vehicle bay, and upstairs to your router, your office area seemed very clean or do you think you need more production area?

I built my office about 7 years ago just to have as a "dustfree" enviroment, but with an oiled wooden floor it just sucked dust and dog hair like nobodys business.

We have just layed a new laminate floor to keep the place cleaner, once we get sorted I can post a couple of pics.

Things are going well for you? Thought we might get over to my mother again this summer which is really close to you....but the £ is so strong that we will be staying here this summer...its scorching hot here, and has been for about a month now....not bad for Sweden.

Ok, as promised, here are the pics I took this afternoon of our "vinyl room".

 -
Notice the large cardboard boxes below the enVision plotter and next to the Edge-2. We use them to catch the vinyl so that it doesn't run onto the floor and get dirty. Every few weeks or so, we wipe the boxes out with a tack rag to clean out any dust that might have accumulated.

 -

 -
Through that door is our truck bay and woodshop areas. You can imagine what gets tracked in.

 -

 -

 -
Through that door is our screen print area where we do decals and t-shirts.

Anyhow, I hope this helps you with your planning.

[Smile]

thanks for the pictures
Glen i like the box idea - simple but effective
the photos give me some ideas on layout.
Henry i dont know if you remember i have a room (print room) behind the office & customer area i work in, i was thinking of studing it off into 2 rooms and using it as an edge room, all the materials stored in there also.
I also did a search and found a nice foil storage rack
http://www.edge-accessories.co.uk/index.htm
take some money to fill it but looks neat and tidy
keep you all informed on progress, also any third party books out there on the edge
PS Henry the Summer has not arrived - there was a Summer Fair yesterday in Gillingham a total wash out.. better climate in Scotland at present than the South Coast..

Regards Adrian
