I'm getting ready to upgrade from corel 8 to corel 10. I'm running Windows XP. Corel 8 isn't compatible with XP. Many of the features don't work, as explained is a previous post. Now....... do I have to have 8 already installed when I upgrade, (which to me seems ignorant). Or, with neither on my machine, if I put the installation disk for 10 in, will it just ask me to put in the "8" disk, to prove that I had a previous version? Also, I guess the 8 that I'm running now was an upgrade version also. Will this cause any problems? I guess I don't want to spend a chunk of change and then not be able to use it! Thanks in advance...........

I recently upgraded to 10. I had 7. My new computer has XP. You will need to install 8 if you have an upgrade version of 10. If you have a full version you won't need to. I installed 7 and told XP to run it under Win 98. Then I installed 10, no problem at all.

well....every version of corel i got...dont need a previous version to load the newest one. the only thing to an upgrade version is delt with at COREL REGISTRATION.....when you buy an UPGRADE VERSION...it is a full version of corel and will install into its own directory. when you go to register it..you will need older corel serial number or a competitive registered program (i.e. CANVAS, FREEHAND, ILLISTRATOR)to get corel tech support....

Yes, Linda, I do own a firearm, and YES the thought has crossed my mind. hahaha! I just built this system by myself though and it is awesome. It would break my heart to have to shoot it. You must have a good memory. I haven't "chatted" for a few years! Ah yes the memories. (As I drift off into a fog thinking about the past) and the first night I ever went to the chat room. Yep, that was the night OLD PAINT kicked me off. Thought I was some kid! hahahahaha. yep those were the days. Bas&*#@! I'll get ya back one of these days! hahahaha I may be old, but I ain't forgetful...........and speaking of OLD paint, I thought I read way back in a post here that version 10 would not run just from the upgrade. You either had to have the full version or a previous one......which is why I was curious about this to begin with.........May have just been a restless night and one of those computer/sign nightmares.....gotta stop eating bananas before I go to bed.

The 10 upgrade will install if you insert your 8 disc ... it'll look for it on your hard drive first, but then prompt you to insert the CD from an earlier version.
How ever you do it, be sure to download the service patches from corel.com. You'll need to install Patch 1. Then install Patch 2. Patch 2 won't install without Patch 1 having been previously installed.
In my experience, 10 is really solid with Patch 2 installed. I'm running XP Home Edition on a P4 with 512MB RAM.

Jim

thanks Jim, that's the answer I was lookin' for. I just thought it was redundant to have to install 8 first on an operating sytem that doesn't like 8 before I could run 10. Now it all makes sense. Windows upgrades are the same way. You just have to feed it something to look at from a previous version so it knows you're legit. Thanks everybody. and OP.......I might come back if you double dog dare not to be a bully this time.
