Avril..I really don't know what the problem might be..it won't be Corel OR Illustrator BOTH. Maybe the Twain driver was corrupted when you suffered at the hands of the virus? Try reinstalling the Twain driver or the original scanning software that came with the scanner ( I believe that Mustek's come bundled with iPhotoPlus?)

Why do you have to scan INTO Corel? I usually scan directly to a file I call C/Bitmaps. Then I import the file from there into whatever program I am using --usually Flexi or Photoshop.
I like this method, because then the scanned file is always there, even if the imported image somehow gets corrupted. I can always start over with the bitmap file without having to re-scan.

Shep you may have corel setup to use corelscan and corel's twain drivers which from my experience usually leaves my mustek dead in it's tracks. You may have to uninstall corelscan and the corel twain drivers and your mustek drivers etc then do a reinstall with just the mustek twain drivers.

Man, I was really hoping to find an answer here. I haven't been able to scan into 8 for over a year now. It worked fine for a long time, then just quit working. I tried removing and reinstalling Corel and the scanner drivers.
I have also found that if I try to scan into Corel, I can't scan into Gerber until I reboot the machine. After rebooting, it works fine in Gerber.

This post got me thinkin' I better check & see if my scanner works also. I have a Mustek & use CD7/PP7, PS5 & recently installed CD8/PP8; to use eye-candy filters. I tried them all & everything works fine.
What version of 8 are you using? Version 8.433 is downloadable at www.unleash.com if you need it.
The problem could be memory. Both Photoshop & Photopaint have options for setting up swap drives for caching memory & temp files. (& CD8) Go to Tools > Options > Workspace > Memory. Check how much memory is allocated in primary & secondary swap disk locations. If all your memory is on c: then you don't have much choice. But if you have multiple hard drives &/or partitions, select drives other than c:.
Another problem could be the scan resolution is set too high. Keep an eye on how many bytes file size is when surrounding prescanned image in frame. It could very easily become more than what the system can handle. Just remember that printer resolution & scanner resolution don't refer to the same thing. A good book on Photoshop can explain it better.
As others have said, use the scanner's program instead of Corelscan. There should be an option to choose one or the other. Or, if you have more than two options, make sure you pick the right one.
Good Luck,

I'm with Timi and the boys on this one as well. Corel was so complicated compared to mustek and I never could get a scan in under a minute in corel. It sure would be nice to have a "this is how it's supposed to be" post. Especially if it's quick and easy...lemme hold my breath...LOL.

Hi Shep; first question is are you scanning full colour or black and white? Second question is do you have a big enough video card to bring in all the colours? Worth a look.

My Mustek and its Twain talks every language fluently except Corel. Corel makes me go the long way for scanning. I go into Flexi without a hitch so I go direct.
