OK, heres the lowdown. I built a new system. asus motherboard, athlon xp 1800 proc. 256 megs of pc2700 ram etc. I was running win98SE fine. just upgraded to XP pro. Now when I try to print anything in Corel Draw 8, the properties box will not open. you can click it but nothing happens. It works fine in programs like MS Word. just not in Corel Draw, or Photopaint. I'm sure it is a Corel problem, but I've run out of places to look. I even downloaded the patches. by the way, I have an HP 952c printer, and a mimaki cg60st cutter. I can't get the properties box to open on either one of them. I have also downloaded and installed the latest drivers for both......hmmmmmmm.....HELP!

Dave.Since I don't use Xp I may just be guessing..BUT...Consider this...Win XP is a new operating system and Corel 8 is about 3 or 4 years old now. Maybe the two won't mix? Like I say..just a guess. Since everything was fine in Win 98SE then obviously there is no prob with Corel itself.

Hmmm, just got a new computer with XP Pro. After reading your post I realized that I haven't tried printing out of Corel 8 yet. Just tried, when I click on properties for my Okidata, Corel shuts right down! I can print, but can't click on properties.
Hope someone out there has an answer!!!!
PS- I also have the newest drivers for my printer.

Recently bought a new computer for home with xp installed. I've had a hard time getting any of my hardware or software to work. Even a brand new printer, I had to download a driver and then it took forever to work.

I've just been searching some newsgroups and it looks like we are S.O.L. Here is a typical response I've been finding-
quote:It's a known issue with CD8 & W2K; I believe with XP it's the same. CD8 was built a bit (some years) before W2K, moreover - XP, so it does not follow some restrictions regarding system parameters, printer properties included. If you want to change printer properties, do it from system Start...> Printers...> Properties menu, not from Corel's printing menu. Sometimes it appears better anyway - with some printer drivers Corel takes and shows only part of printer parameters, and others appear available from system menu only.

Anybody used a Vinyl Express macnine and Vinyl Express Master with XP? Also doesn't XP have an emulation mode to emulate 95 or 98 or is that just more Microsoft BS?

According to Corel, version 10 is the only one designed to work with XP. I'm using 9 with no problems, except the updates wouldn't install. I had to order the latest cd from Corel.

bummer dudes! I'll keep on tryin though, I can cut, but I have to go to the printer properties in my comp. everytime I want to change sizes. It definately is a corel issue. I can print fine from WORD 97. go figure. Looks like "corel 10 here we come". Oh well, when you figure 98 locked up every five minutes, I'm still time ahead.....hahaha.........thanks...

XP stands for "Extra Pain". I've got the dining room running Win98 SE twisted pair network and have the machines reboot by themselves every morning. The server is manually restarted every night. The machines have not been turned off for over a year. They don't lock-up since I removed Norton Anti virus. They run proprietary POS, web cam for security, MS office 95 MS Publisher, Delrina Winfax pro to name a few. Many of these are running 2 or more programs all day and most of the night. Task Scheduler runs up to 13 functions every night on certain boxes. XP is built on the NT platform. NT handles print instructions very differently than 3.11 95 98 or ME. The spooler is different as well. Today is the last day you can buy a machine from Dell with 98 installed... When you think about all the great software that you own that runs on the older OS just fine but said on the box it won't run on NT, well, that's most of the software. Some of the best software I've got has not been supported for years, and will never be re-written... XP... EXTRA PAIN
