The discussions of late regarding other shops are interesting.

I've always maintained that to be successful I need to keep my own business as a primary focus. There will always be others who do business different than me. And always others who would provide what I do for less money.

I do try to keep my head up and see what's around me. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn. I see what works and what doesn't. I travel extensively for this same knowlege. Reading many trade publications and books also provide a wealth of information.

Mostly, I'm interested in what is being done that is better than what I am currently doing. I'm interested in new techniques and methods. I'm always interested in new styles. I have lots to learn.

Recently we had a major setback dealt to us by a former customer who now is our competition. He's using the knowlege and designs I have provided for the last two years to do it. It was a very hard thing for me to get over personally.

But we have decided to put our head down and concentrate on our own business instead of fretting over what might have been. While I dissagree with his ethics, I can only answer for what I do. We will concentrate on providing the very best product we can for our customers. We will continue to be the very best we can be. To allow ourselves time to lament and worry about his business would take time away from realizing our own personal dreams.

We all get setbacks from time to time. Its our lot in life. Our success depends on how we handle them.
