I picked up an automotive spraygun and have used it a couple of times with good results. Today I was spraying an aluminum panel with one-shot and a little frog juice (to help the paint stick). I let it tack up a bit and then started pulling off tape mask. I put my hand down on the panel and left a handprint in the tacky paint. Damn!
Thinking I'd read somewhere that a light mist of mineral spirits helps paint flow, I gave it a spritz. The paint started to orange peel. I scraped the whole area off with a razor knife and wondered if I should just let it dry. Then I started thinking that if I didn't spray it while the rest was still tacky, the paint would leave a dull spot when I sprayed. I loaded up the gun again, gave it a spray, and the whole area orange peeled. I've scraped the area off again. Will I be able to salvage this? Can I spray one area and blend it into dry paint?

personally, i'd wipe off the whole panel and start again. you'll spend just as much time trying to feather and match the edges as you will re-doing it.

I was afraid of that Scooter. I spent alot of time cutting and lining up paint mask for the lettering & pictorials. I was hoping to not have to do that again.
