I've just run into a problem with my new set-up:
Over the weekend I drew three ready to cut projects at home using Corel 10, then I e-mailed the files to my shop where I was going to cut this afternoon. Here I am running Corel 9 and when I try to open up the files I get a blank page. When I try to import the files instead it tells me that the "format is not supported" or "not importable using the selected filter" What's the matter? Shouldn't this be compatible? Do I have to save the files in some other format then Corel? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Lottie....Corel 9 won't open Corel 10 files because Corel 10 didn't exist when Corel 9 was developed. What you have to do is save the files you created in Corel 10 as Corel 9 version.
The option is on the right side of the "save" dialogue window. Just click on the down arrow beside the word "version" to open the dropdown list and choose the version you want.
In fact you can save the files in earlier formats all the way back to version 5, if you wish, so you can send them to someone who is using that version of Corel.

Ok, that makes sense. I had never noticed the option of saving a file in another Corel version. Couldn't come from a better source Thank you, Dave

Alright, it worked but... obviously I don't have all the same fonts in C9 as in C10 so it substituted some. Bummer. I really have to change this so that this doesn't happen. Another thing to figure out. Hi, Joe, I tried what you suggested, I'll find out tonight if it worked, but mostly I'll have to send files from C10 to 9 because I cut with Corel 9 now. And you're welcome anytime to come up to Canada, never mind Ontario, come to Saskatchewan!

Lottie...I run into the same problem when I am designing on one computer and doing the cutting on another...I just leave the CD in the drive and if a font is needed I just cancel the "open" or "import", install the fonts that are necessary, and then re-open the file. (If you allow it to substitute remember to check "temporary" for EACH font substitution. Otherwise it will substitute permanently for ALL of the fonts that are not installed.
Remember that you CAN install Fonts from the Corel 10 CD onto the computer that has Corel 9 on it. True type and Type 1 fonts are all the same and haver nothing to do with which version of Corel they came with. Corel does come with basically the same fonts in versions 8, 9, and 10 but there MIGHT be a few additional ones with the newer version.
Another tip for you...if you are sticking CD 1 of the Corel set into your computer, it will probably pop up and ask you if yopu want to install CorelDraw!! LOL. I have my "auto-insert notification" turned off so that does not happen every time I insert the CD. If you wish to do that you can do it be following this procedure....
click on start>settings>control panel>system>device manager. RIGHT click on CDROM driver then select "properties", finally uncheck the "auto-insert notification". Now when you stick the CD into the drive it won't start up automatically. (I find that to be a very annoying feature of Windows!!! )

Atlantic Canda here. New Brunswick to be exact. Another way around the font problem is to convert your graphics an fonts to curves. This will solve the font sharing problems.

Thanks guys, great tips. It would probably take me years to figure all this out if It wasn't for the helpful people here! Hi Ken. I have a brother-in-law who lives in St.Anne du Kent. Personally I haven't been to the east coast, but will probably visit some day.
