My computer sounds like a plane getting ready to take off. I tried opening it up and blowing out the dust and stuff, didn't make a difference.
We are gonna be moving everything out of this room to put in carpet and paint, so I figure I'd better save, print and back up stuff before we do... just in case the computer decides to be a problem child (more than it already is!)
I know I had asked here about printing favorites out of internet explorer - the info I have is for IE5 (which worked great for my boss at work, he says thanks!)- but I have IE6. I followed the steps for 5, but it will only print out the names, not the names and urls. I tried checking the 'print table of links' - didn't make a difference.
I looked up on the MSN support site, but nothing under IE6.
So I figured, what the heck, go on the BB and ask!!
THANKS!!!

Yea, I was kinda thinking the noise might be the fan, since it is constant, reving up and down every once in a while to make it more interesting.
I plan on opening it back up when we move it. I have copied my stuff to zip disk, except my favorites.
Anyone got any suggestions for saving those? I was just gonna print them out, but I can't figure out how. I've tried to save them before, but that didn't work either.

I have IE6 and in my windows folder is a Favorites folder containing several files that are "shortcuts" they are the links that spell out the url's they point to. Copy them to your Zip along with your data.

You might want to tighten the screws that hold your hard drives and cd drives in their bays. That could be what is causing vibrations, too - if it's not the fans.
I don't know about saving the favorite bookmarks.

And say hello to Bruce for me-- we had a nice visit when he and Michael stopped by on their way to Mass Mayhem.
On the fan thing-- it sounds as though it is getting ready to die on you. The only other thing I wonder about is whether your electric utility is having problems with varying line voltage. Maybe a nearby line transformer is having problems. The revving up and down is why I wonder about that.
The only way I know how to check on that (other than asking the utility company) would be to plug a multi-meter into an adjoining outlet and see if you are getting "wandering" voltage readings.
A multi-meter is an inexpensive gadget available from Radio Shack that will read various electrical functions, and can be a real good tool to have around.
FWIW from the little kid and me.

Dana it sounds like the CPU fan to me, for $5 to $10 you can get a brand new one and be all set to go.
If the computer is being problematic, it CAN be related to the fan going out as the extra heat on the processor will cause it to slow down or in extreme cases it might just shut down altogether in order to keep itsself from burning up.

Since nobody else mentioned this...It could be the hard drive bearing going out and if that's the case you'd better back it up fast. When a drive starts yelling at you it usually locks up pretty soon after that. There's only two things that move inside a computer at all times, the fan (or fans if you have two) and the hard drive. It's one of the two. One cheap, one expensive. I hope it's only a fan.

My computer made the worst noise in the world one time, I though the hard drive was about to blow up . I took it apart and it was a wire that had somehow slipped and fallen onto the fan and it was making a rat-a-tat, about tp blow-up jet engine kind of sound. Sometimes it is just the stupidest things that make the most racket.

Why don't you just copy the favorites folder to a disk? Don't know what OS you are using but the favorites are saved in a folder called, interesting enough, favorites. Look around, find it and copy it. You can click on the links from the disk, they don't have to be on your computer.
