I hope one of you who is very good with the computer can track down the culprit who is messing us up with their virus posts.
I just recieved a message from the post office saying they couldnt send a message from me that I did not send. The address of the person is:
RNSmith71@aol.com:
I hope this is a clue as to who it is and we can get them off the internet permenantly.
Please let us know if anything can be done.
Just got another message from Jay Allen asking if I sent him a message with an attachment. I don't even know how to send an attachment.

Bill if your postmaster sent you a message saying they could not deliver a message you sent that you do do recall sending then your system may very well be infected. Time to get an online update for your antivirus program and be sure,...

Bill,
That latest virus going around will pick a random name from your address book and send iself using that name as the "from". Clever. I had a guy here in town accusing me of the same thing...

These virus designers should be thrown into a deep quarry...

Bill, it looks like you have the Klez.32 Virus ( worm) got to http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp and perform the online Virus Scan. If you're clean, IMMEDIATLY download PC Cillin 2002, or Norton Antivirus 2002, and keep them updated at least every few days ( they both can be set up to automatically update virus definitions) These virus's and worms are really becoming irritating. It makes a person wonder how much cash is in the little brown envelopes that "somehow" end up on the doorstep of these virus programmers. Hmmmmmm... I wonder how the antivirus software companies accountants code that expense.. LOL

just because you received a non-deliverable email, that doesnt mean you have the virus.

Klez is a tricky bugger. It generates those very "undeliverable" messages on its own, and sends them out, with itsself attached to the email.

When you receive an email with Klez attached, the email address in the "FROM" line DOES NOT mean anything, it's NOT that person sending out the emails.

For example.. Let's say Timi has the virus, and he has my address and Steve Burke's address in his address book. I dont know Steve Burke from Adam, I dont have him in my address book and Steve doesnt have me in his address book.

Klez will send itsself from timi's computer to my address, but since Steve is in timi's addy book, it cleverly takes Steve's email and puts it in the FROM line of that message.

So, now I THINK the email is coming from Steve Burke, someone that I have never met nor sent an email to in my life and there surely isnt any reason he would have my email address. Steve doesnt even have the virus, timi does, so contacting Steve about the message (even though I have no clue who he is) does NO GOOD whatsoever.

All you can do is keep your virus software updated and scan your system every day, and don't open any suspicious email.

I get hundreds of klez-infected email every day because so many people have my email address after 3 years of running an online business.

Since this bugger is so rampant, here's a suggestion. Use a search engine to find the
"E-mail Remover" program (free download). Download and use this nifty little program. Before opening up your e-mail program through Outlook or Netscape (whatever you use), open up E-mail Remover and you can look at & delete e-mail messages from the server, before it ever gets to your PC. Keep in mind, this DOES NOT replace virus protection programs. It does help weed out those unwanted messages.
