I did a dumb thing, I said to myself well they have that nifty new IE 6 out and I don't have anything else better to download so I might as well download it and switch from 5-6. I mistakenignly thought that Bill Gates crew might have done us a favor for free. WAS I WRONG! Now my used to be stable internet experience is an unstable, crash ridden misery. Now all I have to do is figure out how to go back to 5 without screwing up something, oh by the way I am also using one of Microsofts other most stable products, Windows ME (he!he!he!). Anybody else having any problems with IE6? and if so, did you figure out how to cure them?

Hello John. There are a number of "security patches" that Microsoft advises you download to update IE-6. As a matter of fact, they sent me a critical update notice just tonight. It's important that you go to the Windows updates site and download those recommended patches...that'll start to improve the performance you're getting.
You'll also have to re-configure your e-mail settings in IE-6 so that you're able to send & receive e-mail. This isn't done automatically when you download the version 6.
Lastly, if you open Windows Explorer, and click on "Temporary Internet Files" you should then go to "edit", "select all", and DELETE all those files. While you're in "Temporary Internet Files", on the left window, look for the file folder with a (+) Plus mark on it that identifies "temporary internet files". Double click on that file, and you'll open up a sub-folder that should say IE-5 Content. Double click that folder, and you'll find another column of sub-folders, each containing about 2500 jpeg, giff, and html files. You'll have to delete ALL the contents of those folders EXCEPT the one folder in each one labeled Desktop.
you'll free up a lot of hard drive space by deleting those files, and you should begin to see some improved performances, and less crashes as well.
I hope this helps you out.

According to Microsofts update site, I have all of the patches. I also clean out my temporary internet files everyday. I just don't know, I downloaded Netscape Nvigator just to see what it would do also.

I'd get rid of Windows ME. Win 2000 Pro, or XP Pro are both built on the Windows NT Kernel, and are very stable and faster than Windows ME. I'd be willing to bet that Microsoft wishes it would have never released Win ME in the first place.
I tried IE 6 before, and it worked well, but it didn't have the radio features built in... is this still the case?

Yeah I only used Netscape for an hour or so and it's outta here. It didn't crash but it is just downright awful if your used to IE. I am thinking that maybe it just got corrupted somehow during the download, I am the last guy on the worst palin jane phone line in the south and I have ha some other problems with downloading stuff before most of the time it just won't work though. Also, I don't have anything running in the startup execpt windows explorer so it isn't anything else being a "hog app." or a conflict. I'm just gonna re-download it and maybe.....

Maybe the current download from MS is corrupted or something. After I use IE 6 I have to reboot just to get my computer to work right and now I even get out of memory messages after using only IE 6 after a startup, I only have a 1ghz. PIII with 384 meegs of RAM so that is stupid. I just downloaded it a day or so ago so it must be a MS problem if somebody else is also getting the problemsg.

If you gto IE 6 , be sure you get teh JAVA fix from M$. IE 6 does not have all the goodies for using JAVA like it used to. M$ made up a fix.
OPERA browser is now fully compatible with JAVA and and works great everywhere. Its download utility is really fast. I used it all the time. There is a free version and a pay version. I used the free version for about 6 weeks and wnet ahead and purchased the pay version.
Netscrap 6 is bad. period.
