Hello everyone. I discovered this BB a few days ago and decided to join in. You really have a great thing going here.
I'm a frustrated artist, who's spent the last 35 years as a carpenter/cabinetmaker. My wife and I remodeled an old craftsman style house into a gift store, a few years ago, and I started doing laser engraved signs and other items. I also started doing all of the ad signs for the store; which led to others asking me to do signs for them. So here I am; a neophite signmaker in his "middle years".
At present I'm doing vinyl and laser engraved signs. I'm also hoping to learn brush lettering and gilding. We'll see if an "old dog" can learn "new tricks". I really appreciate the knoweledge shared here and will do the same from my limited resources.
Thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric! Sometimes I think 'falling' into the sign business like you did is the best way. It shows you like what you are doing and you do it well! Welcome from Cheryl (that would be me) in Seattle.

I recently discovered this site, as well. Never seen a group of people in the same industry have this much respect for each other. You did the right thing!!
Good luck in your own business.

An old Dog can always learn new tricks if he is willing and has some common sense. Welcome to the neighborhood but be careful. Coyotes roam in packs and take common dogs. It can get rough but it is sooooo worth it! Have fun and again welcome.

This is a great place. You will learn alot. Between Letterville and SignCraft magazine you won't be a newbie for long.
Good luck!

I'm kinda in the same boat as you! Got laid off after they closed the hospital I was working at a year and a half ago. Made a few signs on the side before that. Be like a sponge and suck up everything you can. Read, read, read........ You wouldn't believe the turnaround of my designs and overall work these days since joining this board.
Enjoy your new life!
