[02:46] <signmaker> I've got the Klez virus and I don't dare email out and I can't post on the bb, it's nearly shut me down. Could someone please post to NOT open any emails from me unless I specifically address them personally in the subject? -- Donna at Graphic Impact

This Klez virus is by far the worse we have ever seen. Here in Letterville, we have been averaging 30 a day! Here is a link to learn more about this virus and how to deal with it.
We've seen some cases where people have been accused of sending someone this virus. The following information, taken from the article the above link points to, explains how this nasty bug creates that illusion.
quote:Because this worm uses a randomly chosen address that it finds on an infected computer as the "From:" address, numerous cases have been reported in which users of uninfected computers received complaints that they sent an infected message to someone else.
For example, Linda Anderson is using a computer that is infected with W32.Klez.H@mm. Linda is not using a antivirus program or does not have current virus definitions. When W32.Klez.H@mm performs its emailing routine, it finds the email address of Harold Logan. It inserts Harold's email address into the "From:" portion of an infected message that it then sends to Janet Bishop.
Janet then contacts Harold and complains that he sent her an infected message, but when Harold scans his computer, Norton AntiVirus does not find anything--as would be expected--because his computer is not infected.
If you are using a current version of Norton AntiVirus and have the most recent virus definitions, and a full system scan with Norton AntiVirus set to scan all files does not find anything, you can be confident that your computer is not infected with this worm.

Last night around 10 pm I received an email from Donna BC that read: "Hi, This is a IE 6.0 patch I hope you would enjoy it." I haven't heard from Donna in a long time, so I thought it was kind of strange why would she send me a patch? From all the virus emails I keep hearing about. I deleted it, and wrote her back asking if she had send me that? I haven't heard from her. Thanks for this posting, I don't feel bad now for deleteing the email.

Norton may cut the virus off at the knees- maybe they should also do it to the jerk that created the virus!!
I know of at least one company that spent over $1K CDN to refit their computers because of this virus...all because one employee was surfin' instead of workin'...

I get a lot of theses too, and my Norton gets them but when I click on it to delete it I get the warning sign and then I have to click next, next, next, delete, etc. Is there a quicker way to just delete e-mails without going through these steps?

Thank you for posting the link! You're such a doll!
hay folks, for this very reason, I have avoided using Outlook as an email tool. I've always been a big Eudora fan and am currently running Eudora version 5. I've been interacting on-line for 6 years and have yet to acquire a virus. The thing I like about it is you can scroll down the email list and it shows the email without actually opening it, of course clicking on it will open it to full page if you wish. The attachments are not automatically opened either, so deleting the emails that "ain't quite right" is your best bet. Most of the virii are written for microsoft stuff so it's easy, just say no, LOL.
Talking to Donna, last night in chat, I asked her what she used for email, she said Outlook. She also mentioned that her virus program was up just before all this hit her world. Updating makes a difference and so does stopping in here to read up on them as they rear their ugly heads.
I would caution to investigate, oh, so thoroughly, before you start deleting anything on your hard drive. Of course, I feel like I'm spitting in the wind here LOL, a lot of folks have taken the scenic route to this understanding.
But, yeah, pay attention LOL. Good luck to everybody!

Linda, I disconnected my Incredimail program and installed Eudora.....when my AVG scanned this afternoon, it found it again! This time it was something I must have got in Eudora!!!
Now, I'm not opening the mails, just previewing them and deleting there.....am I not understanding something?
