Hello, I have recently heard that Signlab is going to be able to work the Gerber Edge machine. If any of you know if this is going to happen or can already be done I would like to ask some specific questions. Thanks in advance, Matt Walker

Actually, the SignLab can drive the Edge-1 at this time. It can also drive the Edge-2, but only at the Edge-1 speed. I'm told that they are working to drive the Edge-2 at its full potential, but I don't know when that will happen.
Now, if someone could find a way to merge Corel Draw, SignLab and Omega into one program, I'd be the first in line to buy.

Glenn, I don't understand what the reps mean by that. I talked to one today, and he told me how to set up a spool file to print to the Edge. All I see is an export function. That doesn't appear to me to be a complete way of printing to the Edge. Will it print and cut?

I personally don't use SignLab to drive the Edge, so I really don't have an answer. SignLab e6.0 is missing some functions available only in Omega. The person to ask would be Myra Grozinger. She is currently using SignLab to drive her Edge-1.

On my way to bed I checked in on the Letterheads and lo and behold I found my name mentioned. I think that I am a rarity in that I do run the Edge from Signlab e6, because that is all I have. When I bought both the Edge I and Signlab about 6 -7 months ago I was told that they work together and that there are improvements in Signlab on the way worth waiting for. So I have stayed on the sidelines with baited breath and lots of questions about when Signlab will have the upgrade and how good will it be compared to Omega. Not ever having run Omega, or an Edge,I have no way to compare how well Signlab does this job. Yet I can say two things with certainty: One, that is has done a fine job of printing spot color jobs and preparing them to cut (I use a 4B) and a fine job of simple process color if nothing special is involved such as chosing which color prints when. The other thing I know for a fact is that Signlab is about to launch the most substantial upgrade imaginable to make it competitive with Omega when it comes to running the Edge, because I was able to get a developer from Cadlink/Signlab to show me the prototype last week at the Big Show in Columbus. He made it do things I am told are not possible in Omega, and I understand that the capabilities of Omega for the Edge will not only be met, but at times exceeded. All of this is going to have a user manual, the prototype I was also shown, that is really user friendly and visual. I saw what looks like confirmation that I was told the truth and the wait will have been worth it.
As with all new software, especially something so specialized, I expect we will have a start that will have some kinks and rough edges. But I think the path is laid and the word I got is that in one or two months, for a fee, the new version of Signlab will be out and running. Signlab's support people have held my hand and have been trustworthy in what they promised was on the way- I am counting on this to continue on with this potentially revolutionary release.
