Hey there folks. I didn't really think this would be so controversioal, & I hope I don't start a ruckus in here, but I talked to the web guy.
The guy confessed that he indeed hasn't put up any pages. He did show me some designs & they looked great. He said that he will design my site, no strings attatched, & a backup of the site for the money I mentioned before, again if I let him promote his services on my site & mention him here or there.
I feel a little insecurity from his part, & a little fear of getting screwed over. He's 21, by the way. I think I'm definately gonna give the guy a chance. I mean, really, I can't spend thousands of dollars on a site! I'm not saying sites doesn't cost or arent worth that, I'm just saying I can't afford it.

Sounds like a good opportunity for you both to learn with each other. As far as his advertising on your site, just so you know, a small unobtrusive tagline at the bottom of every page is considered acceptable and standard practice. It's basically like an artist's signature that he/she leaves on all his/her work. It's up to you to decide if you want to allow more advertising space than that.

I shouldn't worry yourself, about starting a ruckus, or about controversy, I think your other post was really interesting, I think its good to see from lots of perspectives, even if we may not all agree on our marketing methods, all of us are achievers by merit of being in business. We all have and cater for different markets.
My comments, about site content, on the other post were not aimed at anyone here...I just remember when the last phonebook came out over here, I was checking out the competition and remember seeing lots of stuff that didn't wet my appetite. If I was interested in getting to know a sign co abit before i called them up I would go out to their site and want to see what they get up to, and what they are capable of so I could narrow down my list of calls, unless of course I had been recomended.
Like I said different markets, I have 260 competitors here in Stockholm.

What can you really lose Felix? The story sounds a little more poignant now that you mention his age. Did the same when I started out. I didn't give them a great sign back then, but I am sure they weren't expecting much for what I was charging. Who knows, maybe in a few years he will be on Dan Antonelli's level and you can be proud you were part of it.
