It seems a good many of you guys live in PA. A company(Sturdy Built Mfg.) in PA advertised in our local paper with decent prices for garages/workshops. Their website had some neat looking designs. Was wondering if any of you guys know of this company and whether or not you would recommend doing business with them?

I haven't used these guys, that I know of. We just bought a new house 1.5 years ago. I just looked over their website and found a couple of things interesting.
The site is well-done and the verbage is well written. The pics are well thought out successess as well.
I read up to the part about the trusses and thought it fair to mention to you to check around to be sure.
Start with the Better Businees Bureau. That's what they're there for. They operate in many states so ask about them all.
I jump in now because when we bought our house the trusses were factory made and the flooring had to be adjusted all over. Still having probs. We put a beautiful oak floor down in the kitchen and it's starting to buckle under there too. The builders never fixed anything correctly and are washing their hands of it.
Also, they say they don't use Home Depot, etc. for cabinetry, etc. Investigate that issue as well...ask Monte, the more information you have about your choices, the quicker and better you can make them.
So be careful out there...gather information like the wind before you start anything. I hope this is an honorable company for you Ricky, the first page on the website seemed too good to be true, ha ha ha!

Linda....Thanks for the good advice.Kinda dreaming about what I should do for shop space in the future. And glad your pool friend pulled through the surgery. Boy, I used to live in a pool hall. I could enjoy the pool again, but the extra curricular activities that went on in the one I freqented, well, I can do without.
OP....Thanks for your input. Actually a metal building would be a better fit as far as more bang for the buck and fire(I could do welding and torch cutting in there if I went that route). But the way our house is laid out an addition would improve the looks of the place and I could incorporate a breezeway that would be handy for vehicles, etc.

Linda mentioned "not using Home Depot" for cabinets, etc. We have a story from hell right here on that issue. Long story short, we are not happy and have not been happy for 2 YEARS NOW.
The kitchen is still not completely finished.
I think in reality, the components would have been fine if not for the "expert" installation guy that this one uses. What a jerk.
Samples from this hellish project:
Cabinets are incorrectly mounted 8 to 12 inches too low, leaving a 13 inch clearance from the counter to the bottom of the cabinets. When I asked about this - and I'm not kidding here - the guy said "You know what you can do? You can take a bunch of those tiny white Christmas lights and put them up there... it gives it a real cool effect". I vetoed that idea and he installed them in the right place.
When he installed the counter on top of the base cabinets, he ran a piece of support lumber along the back edge near the sink. In order to find a stud to screw the support to, he used the hunt and peck method of finding a stud by drilling something like 21 holes in the wall. Yes, he could have looked at the area where new drywall had been installed to find the OBVIOUS stud, but no. In his drilling frenzy, he drilled ALL of these holes into the new plumbing... yes the drain pipe. When the plumbing was finally re-connected (in the basement) we thought we were good to go. Then this funny lake appeared all over the new flooring, subflooring, AAAGGGGGHHHH!
There is more... so much more. OK, now I'll stop so I can try to forget it and enjoy my Sunday.

Thank you so much! You have no idea how much you helped me keep myself together.
I'm not even gonna get into the kit/home depot aspect of building, hahaha! I'm fixin to go eat dinner, don't get me started. I could high-five with Jeffrey for 2 hours without blinking, I'm sure! LOL
Didn't mean to rain on your parade or anything, just make sure you pay attention. There's some real scams goin on out there.
Everything will come together in it's time. Ya know, just had a thought, you could barter your skills for "theirs" and save a ton of money here and there. (whomever "they" may be) Be a great way to cold call, "Ya see, I'm trying to get a building done and I'm willing to..."
If it were me, goin down to the coffee shop and askin who's the best at... would be where I'd start. You'd be surprised how much information you could gather. After you've swept the salt off the table (figuratively speaking) you should have some good leads.
Any dream worth dreaming is worth building, take pics!
