We are planning to upgrade our hardware and need to know if anyone has upgraded their Windows to NT or XP, and can still use the Casmate 6.52 successfully. Casmate was designed for Win 95 and works fine of Win 98, but do we dare upgrade to NT?? I'm sure this was covered earlier, but I'm new to your world, so please pardon the repetion!

It will not work in NT. I just got a computer with pre-installed NT, & I will be partitioning the drive to run 98 for use of my CasMate. I may just lose the NT altogether & skip the partition, since 98 works well enough for me.

I didn't know CasMate would work on 2000, so I guess now that I am aware of that I wonder what advantages 2000 offers over 98 that may be worth my considering loading that instead of 98?

2000 is essentially 98...so, no advantages that I know of!

I have a friend with XP on all his systems. When he returns from Peru in another week, he's invited me to load Casmate on one of his computers to find out if it will work. He thinks it will. I'd be delighted if it did. I can let you know if it works if you'd like.

Now that I think about it... Keep in mind, I'm not running XP so i'm just spouting at the mouth. I was watching TechTV one day and they had this subject come up. I believe XP has a feature to tell it to run certain programs as if it were still Windows 98. Kinda of like a "profile" for that program. You could set only certain programs to use this feature. They were trying to run certain games that wouldn't run in XP, but when they told it to run it as if in 98, it ran perfectly.

Just a thought.

Hi All
Idon't have Casmate but as far as win xp,like garbage.J returned an HP computer with xp.Had it just under a month,it would not run half of 98 programs and those that did had all kinds of problems. Some would crash in the middle of a project and reboot. HP support could not help.We tried the compatiability settings nothing worked.
we did the restore several times also recovery.
Buying a custom machine with win 98,should be ready tuesday.

2000 is not 98, it is an NT operating system.
The interphase looks a lot like 98, but the code is entirely based on NT and the file structure is NTFS (it will accommodate FAT32). Integration is better than previous versions of NT, most win 98 drivers and dll's will work with 2000. It does not require NT versions of applications to work.

It is the operating system that I would most recommend at this point in time.
