Watch out they don't break a foot on that deck.

How are you feeling now Adrienne?

We have three hens; Lacy, Falcon and K Fried...Our backyard is enclosed so they get the run of the yard all day, but they go into their house at night where they are safe from predators (raccoons and opossums)

They don't need a lot of room, and stay near the house if you don't have a fenced in yard...

They are easy to live with, eat bugs and spiders (and mice too!) and are fun to have around.
Home raised chicken eggs are better tasting and fresher than store bought.

~~~~~~~~~~~
My foot still hurts a bit, still in a cast for the next two weeks, that's until they x-ray it again and put me in the third cast [Frown] ...
They tell me it's a serious break and will have to be watched closely.
I'm mostly frustrated because I'm missing this weekend's [Frown] meet and a month of traveling around New England and Upstate New York.
The Landlord tells me he has no personal injury liability insurance on his rental property...oh, and he says...he's 'sorry'.
It's been over three weeks and he's not even come over to inspect the deck or offer to make repairs or anything.
I've been turned away from so called injury lawyers due to his lack of insurance.
Apparently, if it involves more effort than a letter to an insurance co. they don't want anything to do with it......I'm getting an education in bureaucracy here.....
So....I've contacted a legal firm in San Francisco that has dealt with lawsuits over deck injuries who is very interested in my case...I'll let you know if it goes anywhere after I talk to them next week.
A:)
well we have 16 Rhode Island Reds...big beauties and one big meen ole rooster with 2" spirs.
we get about 1 dozen a day and some of the eggs would not fit in the super jumbo cartons. and the yoks are big and bright orange. we get $2 a dozen and have a couple of customers.
They will eat all the vegi scraps from the kitchen...and garden!but we don't let them in the house or the deck cause they are kind of nasty.....oh the chicken dukie makes good in the garden!!!! make for a nice recycling. not much luck on the hatching part...would like to learn more on that.
plus when the sign biz is low makes for a right nice dinner!!!!
just a pluckin and a clucken in North Florida.LOL
Chris, I've never tried to raise chickens for meat.....but I've heard it's much better than store bought.
Since I've never had to I think I would be way to squeemish to try it.
My birds are pets...pets that provide breakfast!!!
Any kitchen leftovers that are a bit on the stale side go to them...and they love any chicken scraps too [Razz]
Did you know chickens are good mousers?
Glad your foot is healing well. Just don't let the chickens influence your style of walking when you get back on your feet!
The chickens remind me of when my boys were young. A neighbor of ours acquired two of that species and was very excited when it was time for them to start laying. The boys would go with him to check for blue & green eggs each day. They decide to dye an egg and put in her nest. The second day two eggs and so on. Well, by the time there were four eggs in the nest he caught on!
So watch out in case someone gets a "wise" idea.
Adrienne,
They are absolutely adorable! What have you named them?
Do you let them ride around on your Killer Kart? LOL
PS - I'm hoping this deck dude (lawyer) doesn't let you down!
