Well it's been 6 to 8 months now and I am still having daily crashes with Signlab's latest. I have talked to tech support and downloaded the latest patches, but to no avail.

Is anybody else experiencing problems? I don't know what to do, but I have had a quite a bit of lost work and frustration due to this.

My system is fine with all other programs with plenty of ram, defragged etc. I am not about to upgrade to XP as others suggested to try and fix a problem that shouldn't exist.

Any ideas?

I've got e6 running on Windows 98se and Windows XP. I've not had a single crash or lock up.

Is there anything you are doing when it crashes that is repeatable?

Glenn, a lot of times it is when I am dragging around graphics or groups of letters. The first sign that something is going to happen is when you see ghost images of the corners of the bounding boxes on the screen.
Other times any function or action can bring it down and usually everything else I am running.
Visual runtime errors and such.

Makes me wonder if there is a compatability problem with your video card or the driver. Have you checked to see if you have the latest driver for your video card or tried a different video card?

I'll bet Glenn is right. I had a card years ago that caused lots of problems with just Signlab. I haven't had any trouble with e6. It could also be a combination of factors like video and motherboard chips. Maybe you could borrow a card to test it out.

I wish Cadlink was a bit more up to speed about posting known problems or at least list tested hardware. I had loads of trouble with a AMD powered mobo, they hadn't even tested that version on one so I guess I was sort of a beta tester.

David,

My first thought was the same as Glenn's.....video related. As Glenn suggested, you might want to make sure you have the latest video card drivers....sounds like Cadlink is on the case for you now....so good luck, hope ya get it fixed.

Hi David, I have the exact same problem, especially large graphics that I've scanned in and have not reduced the node count on. It usually happens for me when I'm node editiing. I've got a Creative labes video board with lots of ram and I've got 512k ram on the mother board. I use a wacom pen board and some times the screen refresh rate refuses to keep up with the speed in which I can move objects. I find when node editing or moving a large group of objects, I can lesson the chance of a crash if I hit F4 redraw befor the action. e6 is supposed to warn you of an impending system error and give you a chance to save your current work before it shuts down and it did work for a while, but lately it crashes the whole system all the way out. Gotta unplug it and start over. Save, Save, Save,,,,, Would like to know what Glenn's system is such as video card, etc... Robin

Well, what brought this up about video cards for me is based on my discussions with Gerber tech and with Corel tech when I was having problems with their respective software. I switched to the ATI Radeon 7000 video card and my problems cleared up. I had been using a VooDoo3 3000 PCI card made by 3DFX.

Well my update on the problem is this. I went to download new drivers for my Diamond V770 and it was incompatible with my card or system and locked me out.
Presently using standard vga mode do run system until I find a driver that works or maybe I will buy a new card. Video could be a problem and I will continue that route.
Thanks for the responses.
Also looking forward to Cadlinks help also.

I also experience a lot of problems with e6. It's gotten to the point now that I save the file after about every three moves because I never know when it's going to crash. I talked with a tech at Cadlink and they told me to change some of my setting and then re-install Windows 98. I really don't want to do that and I am thinking about calling them back for another solution. I'm not having any other problems in other programs and I don't know a lot about computers. I am afraid of re-installing Windows 98.

David..
I doubt operating system is cause of your problems.. (I doubt even more that XP will be a remedy) more likely hardware and/or configuration problem. Have you wiped drive and started from a clean install?

Mark,

Nice of you to drop in .. Don't you think CADlink should be a merchant here??

That about sums it up for me too Jean. Save often, every 5 moves or so.
I guess I should try reinstalling Windows, but not a clean install. Just on top to get rid of corrupted drivers etc.
You're right Mike, XP would not solve my problems, though Microsoft would like us to think so. Just as Win95, 98 and Millenium did.

David, the video card that I had trouble with Signlab with was a Diamond. I forgot to mention that I am using XP with e6. If you are considering going that route make sure that the card will be compatable with XP first and foremost. It is a much more hardware specific operating system. You would also need to get Cadlink's latest hasp driver.
