They eat muscrats here in Wyandotte. How's that for weird eats. Story goes during the depression people couldn't afford much meat, and for Catholics fish on fridays was an extravagance, so the Pope gave special dispensation for muscrats on fridays.
Still a strong tradition for some rodent eaters around here.

Folks were so poor here that during the Depression, they didn't even know there was a Depression. They ate possums, coons, squirrels, anything they could catch. I've even heard my great uncle talk about eating dirt. Possums and 'coons are still a delicacy here.

Possums...four legged buzzards. Ever see two flattened possums a few yards apart on the road? Ya know why? Cuz one got killed a few nights before and then his brother got flattened while snackin' on 'em. [Eek!]

I love to deer hunt and if I kill a big one, his shoulder mount is going to grace my wall but, first and foremost his meat is going in my freezer! Don't just kill things for the sake of killing.

This forum is about helping, growing, creating, etc……….it's not about disrespectful, insensitive, destructive cruelty.

Richard………..professionals don’t behave in this manner, Sure, you can go ahead and kill gofers all you want…………… Just don’t post that crap here.

Personally, I think an apology is in order!

David,

When you drive a cane toad, do you go for distance or accuracy?

A FEW YEARS BACK I WAS DRIVING IN THE PICKEM-UP AND NOTICED THIS SQUIRREL HAD BEEN RUNNED OVER...
NO IT WAS'NT A RUSSIAN SQUIRREL...THE DAMMED THING'S BACK WAS BUSTED AND IT WAS TRYING TO DRAG ITSELF OUT OF HARMS WAY, SO MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS TO PUT IT OUT OF ITS MISERY. GET THE SQUEEGEE STICK OUT OF THE BACK OF THE TRUCK!? YEAH SO AS APPROACHED THE CRITTER HE INSTINCTIVELY BECAME DEFENSIVE LOOKING RIGHT AT ME( LIKE I RAN HIM OVER) HE HISSED AND WAS SHOWING HIS RAZOR SHARP TEETH, I COULD FEEL THE GOOSE BUMPS AND AS I COCKED THE STICK HOPING THAT IT WOULD ONLY TAKE JUST THIS ONE-SHOT... BAM! HE WAS GONE, LIGHTS OUT, HISTORY. FINISHING THE TASK AND PICKING HIS WARM,FURRY AND LIFELESS BODY, HE SEEMED TO BELONG AT THE BASE OF THE TREE AT THE ROAD'S SIDE...AS I PLACED HIM DOWN I THOUGHT...MAYBE I COULD TAKE HIS TAIL AND MAKE A NO.4 LETTERING QUILL OUT OF IT

IF I ONLY KNEW HOW I JUST MIGHT HAVE

Hey David,

That Cane Toad looks like something that was growing between my toes once. A little Desenex foot powder took care of it in a jiffy. [Wink]
