i just got myself a new bike, and i want to "customize" it. (actually, i want to hide the Bianchi logo so the bike wont be such a thief-magnet).
so, i'm looking for suggestions, tips, and inspiration.
the frame is black -- so my first thought was painting some flames onto enamel receptive clear vinyl.
then i thought it would be cool to do something with black 3M reflective material, but i don't know if that will be able to conform to the tubes, and i don't know if i could remove it later?
anybody have any experience with vinyl on a bike frame? (the tubes are about 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" diameter). i don't want it to peel or curl off, but i do want to be able to remove it later on (in a year or three).
and... i thought it might be good to put my shop name on it and it might attract some business.

Hey Scooter, happy new bike day! Sounds like a road bike, but that's ok. Try painting on the frame, some pinstripes? On my Kona Stinky, painted 5 bullet holes, ala Lavalle. Looks like you rode thru Oakland.

Living in NYC I did a protective layer on my bike. But it did'nt do much for keeping it lightweight. I got some 2" black leather strips and wrapped all the bars. It still looked swipe-able but I never trusted it locked on the street much anyway. Always running it up & down 5 flights of stairs at home, & 4 flights at the sign shop I worked at. It did protect the paint against always getting locked up against something though. When I left the city, the bike looked brand new.

Want to REALLY make it thief - proof? Airbrush rust holes, scratches, and a HUFFY logo. That and a big ol' Kryptonite lock oughta do it.

Got a Bianchi aye? ...sweet. I think Mikes right, the theives are gonna case the components mostly, but hiding that name might help a bit. I ride a mountain bike & the original graphics aeren't in very good shape, much less any vinyl decals. I did put some small reflective on my fork and chainstays. It's still hanging on, not too pretty though.
