A friend of mine here in Oz has had a croma24 for almost a year, when he bought the printer he had a fella working for him who learnt to run the machine (unsucssesfully most days) and this person has now left
my mate Darren really hasn't any idea why the machine won't do what its suposed to and since ive not had any experiance with this type of printer i cant advise him
so i figured id go straight to the bb and see if there was someone who could help
seems the printer will print small designs but if you send anything larger than 6" it just sits there doing nothing and giving no error message? likewise when you try to print 600dpi
i was thinking that maybe the swap file was the problem, but its not the puter has only 64mg of ram so maybe this wouldn't help but the specs say thats ok
i really need someone who runs one of these printers to tell me how they have theirs setup so that i can copy it, and hopefully get a result
tips n tricks?
really folks any advice you could offer would be great
darren has corel (that's the only part i'm good at) and needs to print some paper posters by the weekend..... help!
where do i start?
cheers gail

Getting any wide format printer to work well with with only 64meg of ram will be a bit of a challenge...he'll need lots of patience 'cause that sucker is gonna rasterize for a LONG time. You didn't say if he has a RIP, definately a necessity. I've got a hp3500cp with came with a 'built in' RIP and hard drive. I've had jobs spool as long as 16 hours from P3-866 512 meg ram, which is why I'm shopping software RIP now. I've got a line on a used posterscript RIP from CADLINK, (with dongle & license) which is on it's way here with the proviso that if I don't like it I get full refund. Other RIP I may go for is called Posterjet.
I've got a good report on Wide format printing and Rips in .pdf format you can download from HERE

You can forget about the Encad Site. The is a guy on board here who gives some excellent advice on digital printing and Flexi. I try to find someting from him and get his name.
Everyone is correct in going right to the Rip problem. Corel has no rip. I use Flexi with a rip and it works flawlessly.

Hi Gail, Yes you can print to the Croma without a rip. I have had two of these machines (1st one got hit by lightening) With the first one I printed straight from Corel draw with no problems at all using the windows print drivers that came with the printer. I've used the Croma PS rip with my new machine but never have gotten the hang of it. I would rather print straight from corel using the printer driver. Never had the problem you're having before, and the machine is at the shop at home so I can't check it right now. I just set up the page in Corel, design the work and hit print. Then set up the cromas page size by clicking the mouse over I think its the "custom" page option in the paper size list and a box pops up. There you can set the paper size to what you need. I think it's like 22.8 on the 24" paper with extended margins checked. If you need more help I'll have to do it when I'm in front of the machine. I have the bulk ink system which is real handy. It's not a fast printer by any means but it does a decent job.

i want to thank you all very, very much for your advice. we had a public holiday here yesterday (which also happened to be by B-day) so i have only just seen the posts i had checked the encad site and as was said above... not a lot of help where the croma was concerned but as always you guys have come thru for me! i kinda figured that the puter is the missing link in this puzzle and so now armed with a bit more information i can set to and get this sucker moving again guys... thanks much
