Hoping to get some quick opinions on how everyone gets a smooth finish when painting. I'm about to start a SignFoam project, but also work with MDO when I have to(If I can't get a good match in vinyl over alumalite for example.) Do you use rollers or brush? I usually use 1-shot but have used the higher quality house paints also.

Thanks again...

Alan, for glasslike finishes I use an HLVP spray gun. If you're not ready for that, I've coated out panels with rollers since, well, a while [Wink] .

If you don't like the orange peel looking texture, you can load up a spray bottle with reducer an mist it into the AIR above the panel, when it lands it should make the orange peel texture flow out. It's important that you don't shoot the mist directly at the panel....bad things will happen.

I use Benjamin Moore Impervo paint with Tiz rollers. After you have given it a fairly good coat of paint....~lightly~ go over it with the tiz roller again to pop any bubbles and give it a smooth finish. Another good finish is Benjamin. Moore primer and paint all in one can. Comes out a semi glossy satin finish....but really nice paint and finish. But...........around here (Seattle) in the winter I use lots of polymetal and intecel as the paint takes awhile to dry.

I just a finished a redwood one. DTM acrylic waterbased, HVLP gun, smooth as glass.

On HDU you can prime with FSC-88 WB primer, sand it smooth, and spray with an HVLP gun.
