Well it's the end of the year, Time to clean out and donate leftover vinyls. With the invention of the internet, most co.s want their web address on their trucks and vans.
I had 28 instances where the 30 feet was not enough. Needed that extra 10 feet which meant another $50 bucks to get it.
Then you cant use the left over 20 feet of "sparkling metallic cranberry green" for anything else.
Anyone else with this problem? Should we petition the vinyl Gods for an extra 10 feet?
What are your thoughts/expriences?

I guess I don't know how lucky I am!! both of my local suppliers (within 30 minutes of me) will sell me any color vinyl, any standard width, in any length from 1 yd to 150 yds. There is the 1-9yd price, 10-49yd. price and then the over 50 yd. price. Obviously I buy at least 10 yds. if the color is something that I can reasonably expect to use in the future but for those REALLY oddball colors I just buy exactly the number of yards that I need.

We can buy any width, with or without holes, and from 1m-50m, although we stock mainly 50m rolls of primary colours and some and order 10m+ of those other colours as and when required

I use nothing but 3M and Trendfilm, both purchased from Gregory, Inc. The other day I grabbed a color for a job and as usual glanced at the date on the inside of the tube. (Gregory has a use by date on their label on the inside of the tube.) It was over a year past the "use by" date. I started going thru my stock and found several rolls that were outdated. I immediatly set a new policy and am going to cut my stock colors way back.
Gregory will ship as little as 1 yard of vinyl. Sure the price per foot is higher but I know I will save money when I don't have to donate partial rolls of old vinyl to my wifes' art students. So when I need that extra 10 feet, I'm not going to have to purchase an extra 10 yards.

I guess I am RRREEEEEEAAAALLLLLYYYYY lucky as my suplier is less than a mile from me and they sell all their vinyl at the 50 yard price so you always make the same profit regardless of how much you buy. For the smaller items I get from them I usually go pick it up but the bigger things I have them deliver (no charge to boot). Quite often when I call in a delivery order it is here in an hour or less.

when I need just that extra few feet, I get on the phone and call the other sign shops in town that are in the little trading network we developed. =)
We trade materials freely with each other, just need a phone call and an approximate pick-up time so we can be present when someone comes by to pick up the material. We dont charge each other at all, we just have good faith that the favor will be returned eventually.
Saves us all time and avoids having oddball colors sitting on the shelf forever! We all need them at some point in time.
