Ok folks....Say I have the letter "O". I put an outline in Omega around the "O". The outline becomes spot black foil. I make sure the original "O" is to the front. I Make the original "O" "clear" so that it knocks out the black outline and shows the vinyl substrate.
Simple enough right? Wrong. The center part of the original "O" knocks out the black (inner)outline completely, even though I have the original "O" combined. What the $#@!????
Man, I wish I had layers so I could isolate things better and see what's going on.
Anyway, why doesn't the original letter "O" knock out the combined black outline correctly? It's like a solid circle knocking out the black outline shape beneath it instead of an "O" knocking out the black outline beneath it. Get what I mean? What am I doing wrong here?

Awe Crap! I just figured it out....I had the original "O" as a white vinyl substrate, and the black outline of the "O" as a different color substrate. The "Clear" function apparently only knocks out things if it has the same substrate attributes. Sheeeesh. Thanks anyway.

One of my most missed features lost in the Graphix Advantage to Omega transition was the Vinyl Assignment (VA)function/tool. I think the way vinyl is assigned now is a much better approach , however, I have been unable to find a wire frame view that displays in the actual vinyl color like use to happen in GA when using VA (speed key v by the way).
Having that capability allowed for a quick glance of possible errors like you mentioned above. It was tough to tell the difference between White and Matte White, but it made others stand out real quick. I believe it’s one of those two steps forward, one step back kind of thing.

Ahhh, but Master Glenn....would it not be better...(pause) for Omega's functions to be...(pause) layer specific? I...do not understand.

Seems like clear could be assigned to knock out objects on layer 1 only, clear could knock out objects on layer 2 only, etc.
They have a crude version of layers now (move to front/back, back one, front one.) You can "combine" objects on one layer now, and combine other objects on a different layer now regardless of substrate.....why can't you knock out with "clear" on different layers regardless of substrate?
Teach me master....I am young, and eager to understand the ways of the dragon. Hehehe.
Well, actually I'm 40 (41 in a couple days)...but it seems younger all the time.
