Buying a sanding sealer for my cedar sign and my local store only has oil based sanding sealer. Is that enough to barrier the blast stencil and the wood itself?
I have always used laquer based in the past but if this stuff will work, it may save me a trip into Calgary.

Corey, you better read the directions on the label about exterior durability. It will work to hold your mask in place while blasting. But, if it is not exterior grade, it may fail in the elements then your topcoats will fail also. So, it must be sanded back down to bare wood after blasting. Matter of fact, I just got some pictures back yesterday where this exact situation occured. (photo of sign) A friend of mine made this sign several years ago and he had no idea of prepping wood for exterior use. The background is latex and is in fairly good condition. The letters have some kind of varnish or sealer on the bare wood with gold applied to that.

Thanks for the reply and the pic John. Actually, the oil sanding sealer is an interior grade but, is temporary as I plan to sand it off to apply my bullseye 1-2-3 wood primer to it and then my acrylic enamel. I will probsbly go the safe route and get the laquer based.
