Outstanding bunch of race cars...they really look good!!!! All of them.
This is a good move to educate the public to what racing is all about.(The Mall Show)

The floresent on the #28 is a killer. I can imagine it streaking through the dark far end of the track.

Steve, I think you will be suprised at how many racers are on here, a lot of folks don't like doing the cars but then there are a bunch that do. I've done them for years, at one time they were about 80% of my business, I've done a couple of thousand by now . I'm retired from driving cept for an occasional stint in my son's car but I'm active in crewing on his car. We run a street stock usually two times a week in the mid south.

Thanks for sharing the pics, I found them very interesting. I get around to a lot of different tracks and see a varity of work, some nice stuff and an awful lot of really bad stuff. The cars on your circuit look much like those elsewhere.
You wanted a critique, here goes. First let me state I'm a stickler for readability, why put a number on a car if it can't be read on the track? They should show up on the backstreach if everything is done right. The 12B is an excellent example of poor readability.

On to the cars you did.
The Gardner car is the best one of the lot as far as I'm concerned, that one will jump out at you out on the track even if it's a half mile, great color choices.

Applebee, this ones not going to work as well, the graphics on the quarter panel make it hard to get anything to go over them and show up, I'd go real heavy with a black outline there. On the number, do away with the white outline, it's killing the definition on the numbers , especially the "A"

LaBarbera,, this is gonna be another one that will be hard to read, the graphics again present a problem that needs a heavy black outline to stand out, the numbers are too light in weight for readind at a distance too.

Frisbee, this one is another good one, great use of contrast , simple but reads well, nicely done street stock [Smile]

Swanson looks good, again simple and easy to read.

Dunnewold, I would revese the colors on the numbers, the number white , the green for the outline.

I couldn't figure out which car was yours, the 17?? Again on this one I would change the color order, the light color for the number the black could stay where it is and the green for the pinline.

VanArsdale, this is another nice one, reads real good and the graphics are very nice, not overpowering.

Over all some nice stuff, I hope you didn't mind the constructive criticism, but hey, you asked [Smile]

One thing I do when I pick a color for the number is to choose one that will work with no outline, then use outlines that will enhance contrast, don't crowd the spacing between numbers and watch out for numbers with small centers like in the 0's and 8's, stuff tends to run together and close up at speed, nothing like doing what you think is a killer job on a car numbered 83 only to see it on the track and it looks like 00 [Frown] A lot of times what looks great in the garage looks like crap on the track. If you have any question feel free to e-mail me, I hope I don't come across as a know it all, I'm only tring to share things that took me years to figure out...believe me I've made EVERY possible mistake [Smile]

Hi all again,
Thanks for the good things you had to say. That makes me feel pretty good. I do know what people say here at the track i go to. Im not the best and dont want to be. But with everything i do i learn more and more everyday. Someday i want to get completely away from race car lettering for reasons alot of you talk about on here about.
For George, Im glad you took the time to say the things you did. Im not at all upset at any of it. I do see alot of the things you wrote about on theses cars. Its funny the good ones you liked I did without any input from the driver. That Laberbera car was bad in my mind yet the owners/sponcers of it loved it. They love that white graphics deal down the side even though you cant see anything else. On that the drivers wife/daughter wanted it like that. He already wants me to make another set of decals the same way. I guys in this case the one who pays is always right.
The best yet most easiest of all i do is the #1 car of Gardeners. That car has three colors on it. All the adds and number are the same. Like you said ,it makes for a good reading car when on the track. The owner of this car wanted it this way and it takes good pics to when its at speed.
Oh one more thing George my car is the black and yellow #72 Dodge. I dont run mopar power i just have a Dodge dealer sponcering both of my doors. I run a Chevy 420 Ross powerplant in a Bullit 4 bar car. Everything i do on my car i do by myself with the help of my girlfriend who loves racing more than i do. When im completely done with my car i will post a pic of it or send you one in your e-mail.
Well back to makin decals thanks for everything you all share on here once again.

But not sure what to price on the numbers and sponser name??? Could you give me any ideas??? Also, do you do sponser on these race cars?? Not sure how that works...

Hey Steve,

What a great post. Thanks for the link to a neat show. What a feat it must of been to gather that many finished cars in one place right before racing season.

Racecars have always been a source of enjoyment for me to do. It is also the most difficult from the business end of things.

One of the greatest pitfalls I think we face(I know I did too many times)was having too many friends in the race community and not getting the loyalty when we finally ask for the kind of money that it really takes to letter a ride.

They are really kool to do and are a lot of fun to letter. I learned alot and experimented alot. There is always something about a hand lettered racecar that is sooo neat.

Now that I design and letter in vinyl(I'm doing one tommorrow)the job is still kool and the car turns out nice. But, there seems to something missing.

Anyhoo, Steve your work is good and the cars are very Kool. Heed George's suggestions and keep at it.

I'll stop rambiling now,

Joel [Roll Eyes]
