Where are you getting your clear cedar? What are you paying per foot for 6" material? The yard where I used to get it closed. All of the other lumber yards are more home builder orientated. So no one locally carries the good stuff. Years ago I remember hand picking clear cedar or redwood from the yards, now it's hard to find. Cheers

Getting 100 lineal ft. of 2" X 8" kd clear cedar here in Alberta, Canada. The Cedar Shop in Calgary hopefully is coming through. I couldn't find it anywhere.
I am paying 6.56 per lineal ft. but, that's Canadian so it would be like .17 cents a ft. for you. ha
You've obviously decided that ALLWOOD BLANKS are too much money...I'm curious to know what you would estimate your labour cost (etc) to be for cutting/clamping/glueing 100 board feet of Cedar into blanks?

Jon, Do you have a square footage price for the Allwood blanks? I can get redwood banks for $10.00 a sq. ft. I really would rather glue them up myself though! Why did I buy all of these tools?

Thanks Randy for the advice and I will contact him next time when there is more time allowed on the job.
Jon, My main reason for doing it myself has just been answered in this sentence. This is a fun project that I can say I did myself. How often are you proud of a no parking sign or hours of operation on someones window?? I was also under the gun with this job and felt the time frame for someone else to provide was a bit tight. I will keep ND in mind though.
Anyway, the cedar for 83 lineal feet costed $630.00 then stain, paint ,$25 for glue. Buddy to help plane the edge and glue...3 hours total and he'll work for beer, buddy that sandblasts(instead of $300.00, he'll also work for beer......BEER is so versatile and these guys aren't lushes, they're very knowledgible and professional...no drinking til the job is done. All in all, I will have spent less than $1500.00 to have the sign COMPLETE.
Thanks Corey, for being a good sport. I do tend get to get a little too wrapped in the whole "help our customers make more money" thing, I guess. I can totally appreciate the "labour of love" concept - it's worth more than money (as long as you have a roof over your head, a full belly...BEER!).
Take care.
PS to my Floridian friends...ALLWOOD have dealers throughout the USA. Click on the link that someone posted above.
