From your list, it sounds like you are already on the right track, Wayne. One of the cool things about being a designer is that you can use fonts that you like, as long as they work for the application. For race cars, generally speaking, I go for: bold as possible, generally san serif (but not always), condense or extend to best fit the door and usually italicized to further imply motion.
Here are some of my favorites: Machine Bold, Bolt Bold, Sofachrome, Bremen Black, Bertram, Serpentine, Motter Femina, Compacta Black.

Is that "Bats" as in Dennis the striper from Yonkers? I have one of his panels hanging in our shop. That guy was such a hoot! Met him at a meet at the T-man's in '90 in central New York.
Have a great one!

Try Larabiefonts.com as well as signdna.com and letterheadfonts.com. I do about 40 - 50 race cars a year, and try to create a different look then everyone else, lettering and striping, etc. That's what gets the car noticed, and that (hopefully) is what keeps customers coming back

Pat mentioned a lot of good computer fonts. the real pain is finding a good , distinctive and readable font for the numbers. I find I draw and scan something of my own ....just to drive the local "decal guys" nuts trying to find it:) And along the lines of Jillbeans post, they DO ask for them

There are several font designers that are producing type faces designed by signmakers for signmakers. Well worth the investment.
When you are talking to these people, don't forget to mention you heard about them in Letterville. We've been trying to get them to set up shop here in Letterville as Merchants for ages.

Just a suggestion for everyone, how about letting us know where you got your fonts from as Joe did in his reply. I'm not trying to sound like I'm flaming anyone, but the name of the font is kinda useless if you don't know where to find them. I myself would like to see examples of some of these that are listed but don't know where you got them from.
