Say, I am quoting a sign and I am going to put 3-M vinyl graphics all over it.
In my quotes, I usually put for example : QTY. 1- 4' X 8' White MDO board consisting of 3-M vinyl graphics &/or lettering with 8 year outdoor durability.
Is the "with 8 year outdoor durability" neccesary? By putting that on the quote, I imagine it could bite me on the butt somewhere down the road. Should I just leave the life expectancy off or is it a proper/ professional thing to leave it on?

Corey, I think that when saying "with a 8 year durability" you are giving an "implied warranty" for that period. And, yes, there are some folks out there that could insist you replace the sign at the 6 year period when it starts to deteriorate. It is probably best you just describe the lettering as "lettered with high performance vinyl". With the ongoing problems with MDO, the factory applied primer fails within a year or two and not the paint or vinyl. If you are using Alumalite or metal, you can expect a 6 year or better lifespan than with 2-4 years with MDO. That is just my dos centavos. . .. .

Hey Corey I wouldn't be scared to give an eight year warranty on many of my signs, but I'd never do it in writing if not very specifically asked for ( so far they've taken my word for it )
John's right, High Performance is a good description, or any words like quality, professional, durable, long lasting, premium etc.
I put size, material, quantity, prize and maybe delivery date in writing, together with the design, but bring up things like durability in the discussion with the customer.

Most,... if not all of the automobile manufacturers will not give you over one year warranty on an automotive paint coat, and that is on a new model,...no way I would give the customer the chance to even imply that a sign would have even a 5 yr warranty much less an 8 yr warranty. I have hand painted jobs out there that have been on tha sidewalk since 1978 but no way I would offer anyone any more than one year. You can take a new paint job on a vehicle & if it is not taken care of it will look like crap after less than a year.
